Chapter 1

I have never seen this many people in one place. They're sitting on the stairs, crushed around the stage, hanging from the machinery on the wall.

And they're all pulsing with hatred.

I grip Mako's arm a little tighter as we descend into the crowd. He looks down at me and smiles reassuringly, that half smile of his only making me a little less worried. The crowd is crushing me. There's too many of them. We found a small somewhat open space to watch the Revelation from and waited. I could see Mako looking around for Bolin and the disappointment etched into his features told me the younger sibling was not to be found.

Suddenly, a loud grinding was heard. The stage ascended with Amon and his equalists spread across it in a line. He began to speak as three prisoners were led out and forcefully pushed to their knees, heads bowed. Bolin wasn't with them. I shot Mako a look and we began to make our way out of the building. People pressed in on all sides and dirty looks were given to us for leaving before his "greatness" was finished speaking. We had just pushed through an especially crowded part when I felt an iron grip on my arm. I was tugged roughly and whirled around to find a masked chi blocker holding on to me. He pressed a finger to his ear and muttered, "Found her", into the com unit. My jaw clenched and I ripped my arm from his grip and flipped backwards into the space now being created by the retreating crowd circling us.

I settled into an earthbender stance. I couldn't fight him head on. That was just asking to be hit. I smirked but that quickly slipped off my face as a huge piece of rock came hurtling towards me. He was an earthbender! I jerked my head out of the way and jumped over to the side. With quick movements, I shout small pebbles at him but he just kept leaping out of the way.

His style was very familiar.

I gave up distance fighting and went for hand to hand. He blocked every punch I threw at him. One punch missed and his hand snapped out to pull me off balance. As I fell backwards I dug my heel into the ground and flung a column of earth up into my attacker's face. It caught him under the chin. He flew up into the air, his mask falling off, and landed on the ground. I took a steadying breath and took up a defensive pose. The equalist groaned and reached out his hand to grab his mask. He stood up slowly, tucking the mask under his arm, and turned to face me. My arms dropped to my side and my breath caught in my throat. Staring at me, with hatred in his green eyes and a smirk on his lip, was Bolin. An equalist.
