Sam just couldn't believe what happened, and that was not logical as he had been in many different situations due to this ''family business'' his father made him do. But nothing was more heartbreaking and made him so miserable as the situation he was facing now. When the doctors told him that his brother wasn't awake and they didn't know if he'll ever wake up, he didn't want to believe it. He stayed in his silent hospital room waiting for the doctors to tell him that he can go and walk without them watching him out. His grief and sadness came when he saw it by his own eyes. Dean, laying in a bed, looking so exhausted and pale that for a minute Sam got afraid that he was watching a dead body… his brother's dead body.
He got closer to the bed and when he remembered what really was going on , it didn't make him feel better. Actually he was feeling much worse, thinking that his brother, the one who had so much energy and always wanted to tease him, was now unable to do something but only to fight alone to get back to ''life''. He couldn't help avoiding the tears that started rolling down his cheeks as he continued looking at Dean's emotionless face. Sam couldn't stand this, he needed to find something to help his brother but what… He hadn't been in this place he was and , truth be told, he didn't want to go talk about it with his father.
Sam still remembered the discussion they had before the car crash. How Dean was bleeding ,ready to pass out, or worse, die. And John still wanted to take his revenge, without thinking that his older son was in an awful state. As much as Sam wanted to catch that demon, he would never put his brother's life in danger as Dean's life matters more than taking his revenge for his mother. For Jessica. But obviously his father couldn't understand it and that was only making him madder.
However, the fact was that he should allow himself to calm down and cooperate with his father…at least for Dean's safety. He should take everyone's help to be able to save Dean, to have at least some hope to save his older brother. For that reason, with a last glance at Dean, he turned and started leaving the room, going towards the room where his father was.
As he was passing really fast ,he didn't notice a mysterious man sitting a bit further from his brother's room but one of the doctors did. He was there from the time the accident happened and it was like he was disappearing and appearing any moment. No one knew who he was ,or better to say no one has gone to talk to him to ask him who he was. Maybe it was his face or his pose but it was like that person didn't want to be disturbed. Always with his tan trench coat sitting in the chair, staring at the door where behind it was that poor man that was now in a coma. At first the doctor thought that at least the younger one, the brother of the patient knew him, but as he saw that neither he stopped to talk to the mysterious man, he decided it was time to see what was going on. As he was getting closer, he noticed that the man didn't have any expression in his face. Not grief, not sadness, and ,thank god, not happiness. Just a blank look with his blue eyes.
''Sorry ,sir, but I have to ask you.. who are you and what are you doing here?'', the doctor asked. The man with the trench coat turned to him with weird and half interested eyes and tilted his head to watch the man that had disturbed him better. Then he turned slowly his head towards the door and ,for the first time , his eyes showed some sadness in them and said slowly:
''I'm just watching over someone important…'' and then he extended his hand to touch softly the head of the doctor to make him forget that he ever saw him.
