Author's Note: Happy belated St. Patrick's Day (although I was planning to release this on March 17th, but oh well...)! I'm excited to write this 10 part storyline for you guys (there will be a special chapter 5.5 though). I love Finn Bálor and Becky Lynch and these two are such underrated Superstars in WWE today. Fun fact: Finn actually trained Becky during her first years in pro wrestling training, so that makes him her former mentor. I know this might not happen in real life (unless it does), but I've always wondered if there were a dream match between the two Superstars and so this idea came into play. I hope you enjoy reading this!
CH 1: Announcement
"Are you sure about this, Fergal?", Becky says to Finn beside her and behind the curtain.
"I'm sure", Finn replies, "He doesn't know we're here, so that's a good thing. Besides, we came here to surprise the fans, right?"
WWE wrestlers Finn Bálor and Becky Lynch are taking a break from the company to meet some old friends and family members back in Ireland. But their meeting each other was quite...coincidental. You see, Finn was given time off after a segment on Raw features him getting thrown around by Braun Strowman. As for Becky, she said she has some business to deal with in her hometown. When they met each other at the airport and on the same flight, things went strangely from there. Not to mention they're going to the same event: Over the Top Wrestling at Dublin's National Stadium.
Behind the curtain, Finn and Becky listened and watched as Luther Ward delivers a scathing promo about the controversial match he had with babyface Logan Bryce. He's surrounded by his son Paddy and brother-in-law for support.
"Look….the man tried to steal one of my priceless shoes and thinks he can get away with it. That fat bastard couldn't run so fast to the ring in time, I cleverly stayed in the ring and watched him suffer", Luther said. The fans start booing and throwing insults at him.
"A nasty piledriver on the apron is enough to shut him down. Plain and simple", Luther responds to the heat from his fans. "Let me say this once again, just like I do in my promos: I'm the best in OTT. In fact, I'm THE best in Irish wrestling. The best fighter, the best talker, the best self-promoter. I'm the king and I deserve better!"
The fans continue to deliver the Wards a string of boos around the ring, tired of the leader's arrogance and sense of pride.
Luther takes off his fedora and points it at the crowd. "Now don't boo. Be considerate that I've made a change in stipulation today." He puts his hat back on his bald head. "Now that big boy Bryce is out of my way, I've already declared my decision: to issue an open challenge to anyone who wants to face the great Luther Ward."
Turning towards the curtain, Luther and his family await their opponent. Luther then said, "So whoever is behind that curtain and wants to take a jab at this fine specimen, be my guest. Come at me with everything you've got 'cause I'm the king of wrestling. Surprise me."
So the WWE Superstars did. Answering Luther's request, Finn and Becky walked slowly out of the curtain and made their presence known. A loud gasp followed by a huge pop ensued, the fans astonished by the arrival of the two Irish wrestlers. Even Luther, Paddy, and his brother-in-law were stunned.
Finn smiles at Luther's reaction. "What's the matter, Ward? Surprised to see us?", he chuckled. Luther tries to make a sound, but Finn said, "Let me guess, you thought you're expecting someone a little more...scrawny-looking. And second, there can only be one king in Irish wrestling...and that's me, Finn Balór: The Demon King."
The fans cheered with excitement. Luther gestures Paddy and his brother-in-law to leave the ring. Then he said, "Look, Finn...you're right. You DID surprise me this time. Yet, I wasn't expecting you to come here because no one in OTT told me so. Here's the thing: I don't want to fight you."
The fans boo at Luther for that statement. Finn, of course, was curious about this predicament and looks at Becky. They both looked at each other with one eyebrow raised. Becky shrugs, following Finn.
Luther continues, "I respect you, man. You don't know what it means to be standing in the same ring as you are now. But...don't make me have to change my mind about facing you. I'm still part of OTT and I'm the true champion. So you and this beautiful lass over there can mind our-"
"Um, I have a name and you know it. Finn and I can take it from here", Becky said to Luther. She gestures him to move out of the ring and, with no debate or excuses in mind, Luther leaves the squared circle quietly. While he does that, the crowd loudly chants: "Na na na na...na, na, na, na...hey, hey, hey...goodbye…"
After Luther left, the spotlight was now on the major stars. Finn and Becky stood in the middle of the ring, surrounded by their fans' cheering and showing of support. Then the fans chanted in unison: "Welcome home! Welcome home! Welcome home! Welcome home!"
"Did you miss us?", Becky said. The fans let out a pop from the stands and chant: "Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!". Finn tries to maintain himself from laughing. He walks around the ring a bit to clear his emotions while the audience dies down the noise.
"I was expected to arrive alone to OTT…." Finn pauses, then glances at Becky. "But it oddly seems me and Becky crossed paths at the airport."
Someone from the audience went "Awww…..", which triggered laughs from other people as Finn slightly grins.
"Anyway….", Finn continues, "It's been a while coming to an OTT event since my fatal shoulder injury from Summerslam back in 2016. But I've managed to come back stronger than ever at last year's Summerslam when I've defeated Bray Wyatt. It was then I knew...it's great to be the Demon King."
The fans respectively clapped for Finn. It was Becky's turn to talk. "Through the triumphs and struggles me and Finn had together, we didn't come back to Ireland as nobodies. We came back home….as heroes."
"Aye!", the Irish fans shouted in unison, followed by a series of claps and whistles. Finn steps in and said, "And if it takes us against many foes that want to see us fall, let it be known that we don't bow down to anyone."
Paul Tracey, an old friend of Finn's, suddenly comes out of the curtain after the fans finished their clapping. He heads over to the ring and stands in the middle with a mic in his hand, ready to speak. "I'm sorry to interrupt you both", Paul said, "but it seems we have a video message directly from WWE Headquarters. It's NXT General Manager William Regal, I believe."
Fans instantly reacted to the name of Regal, wondering whether he'll be making a surprise appearance at OTT, but that remains unclear. Finn and Becky, eyebrows raised, don't know why.
"Regal?", Becky said. "Why would he be sending you a video message at this time? We just got here."
"I do apologize for the sudden turn of events", Paul replied, "but if the audience can look over here at the projector screen, Mr. Regal has an important message for Finn Balór and Becky Lynch. Do pay attention."
Someone from behind the curtain quickly presses "Play" for the video to start on the projector screen. Regal is seen in his office, sitting in his chair and looking at the camera with a slightly concerned look on his face.
"Greetings, ladies and gentlemen, this is William Regal of WWE. Finn Bálor and Becky Lynch, if you're watching this right now, I've been warned of a bizarre letter I've received in the fax machine just a few hours ago. WWE officials and I believe that this 'letter' is sent by a mysterious benefactor that has an absolute interest in the upcoming pro wrestling event that is yet to happen in Northern Ireland: the Belfast Pro Wrestling Open. Here is what it says as follows:
To any WWE official who receives this letter,
I have something to say about Finn Balór and Becky Lynch. In fact, it's more of a special request. As their mysterious benefactor and booking confidante, I've finally declared a stipulation of sorts..."
The tension in the air was growing. Oddly peculiar, in a way.
" As of this summer, I've decided to have the honorable Finn Balór and Becky Lynch to heavily compete..."
Finn and Becky held their breath.
" In a no disqualification intergender match as the main event for the Belfast Pro Wrestling Open."
A huge pop from the fans ensued. Finn and Becky couldn't believe what they're hearing. Finn looks at Becky with confusion, followed by Becky's disbelief with her hands on her hips. In short, they were speechless.
"Intergend-intergender match?", Becky said. "Why the hell would this person book a match between us...while we just CAME here to Dublin?"
"I know, there seems to be a mistake. And if we refuse to make it happen?", Finn questions. Surprisingly, the video had an answer for this.
Regal continued reading the letter:
" If these two combatants refuse or even no-show at the main event...then consider Finn and Paul's beloved wrestling school Fight Factory...to be permanently evicted and out of business for good."
Finn slowly turns his head to the video in shock. Fight Factory, the place where he started many careers for future Irish wrestlers, to be done in an instant?
"Good luck to them both. Sincerely, anonymous."
Regal folds the letter in half and places it on his desk. "Um….I don't have any much to say, but we'll figure out the situation as much as possible. This is a serious matter that both of us must attend to. Finn and Becky, I hope you two consider this request much thought afterward. See you later."
The video ends and Finn and Becky are left pondering over what just happened.
Are Finn and Becky even ready for this moment? Or is the announcement just a setup? Find out when Chapter 2 is coming soon!
