Chapter 1

"Well... You certainly haven't lost your charm... Have you big guy?" I nonchalantly told the statue of one of the worlds greatest heroes and by extension soldier, if you wanted to elaborate on what they mostly did early on in their career. A slow gust of air left me as I looked at the statue, it's dark, well-carved body was being illuminated by the glow of soft blue lights, crouching down before wiping the plaque in front of it clean. While I've done my research on the guy, I've perused the records of what he could do and the feats he had accomplished during his lifetime... There was just one thing I needed... That one little drop of stuff they call...
Hope...
A small inkling of hope was all I needed to get my friend back and this statue... No, the person it represents... Will be my ticket to that hope! Looking down at my right hand while I briefly pondered what I was doing, it was a risky plan and one that wasn't guaranteed to work, but they always did say a leap of faith is needed for the greatest of actions... Wiping my eyes clear of the tear build up they were going through before I got my mind back on track to what I came here for. Placing a finger along the bottom of the words before I began to read them...
Super strength...
Flight...
The man who broke sound...
"There we are..." I mutter as I found the one ability I was after...
Fundamental rewriting...
"That's what I need, a little cloak that will hide me from all possible hinderances... Well... Best not to keep you waiting, eh? Big guy..." I tell myself as I pull out a small device, no bigger than what you would expect from a normal lighter... Yet it was so much more...! Taking in a sharp breath when I activated the device, wincing in agitation as small spikes dug themselves into my palm and drew blood, clenching slightly as I got over the pain, I've been through worse than a small prick on my hand, but that didn't stop it from hurting like the bugger it was... Smiling slightly when a small holographic projection had formed above the opening of my hand.
Reluctantly, I began to push some buttons and fiddle with the representation of an analogue stick, nodding to myself as numbers and words began to form above the hand... A time when this guy in front of me was alive... A time of turmoil and pain, but a time when something great was born... A hero whose legacy outlived all... That is what I needed... That is what I wanted...
Clicking my mouth before I pushed the initiation button, unsure of how this was going to go exactly, nervously rubbing one of my legs as the grey projection began to turn green. Moving my head slightly before I hit the gas so to speak... It was time to go on a highway trip... But time would be our issue here, not a scorching sun or traffic congestion. Yelping slightly in surprise when the machine began to work its magic...
And I was certainly taken back...
No longer was I in a concrete jungle at the centre of an interdimensional empire... Instead... I was in a swirl of colours, colours you'd expect from a tree... Browns, greens and some even duller colours... All of it in a swirling spiral of twitching mass and epilepsy triggering flashes... I, however, was still the same, feeling queasy and ill, but the same regardless, readjusting my goggles as I moved through the fantastical landscape that was this place... But I couldn't help but feel a little worried about how this might go...
And now I was out of the timestreams...
And instead, I was now falling through the cold skies of Iceland presumably...
"Well... Shit..." muttering out my annoyance as I plummeted towards the ground, looking back at my legs as I tried to figure out what I could possibly do with them in my current freefall... Steeling myself mentally as I looked at the dark scorches that were supposedly meant to be permanent...
Chronal burning...
Glaring at the ground as I switched into more of a diving position as I fell, smirking as I adjusted the shape of my legs to fit my current situation. Painfully groaning as the burns fought back against my powers, their lovely need to keep my legs in a certain state not agreeing well with my ability to shape my peg leg shaped legs into various forms. Rolling forwards and having my legs primed to hit into the ground and absorb the impact, stuffing my face mask into my mouth so I would have something to bite down on when the inevitable pain of suddenly hitting the ground would bring.
"In hindsight... I probably should've tried to direct myself to the water..." I tell no one in particular as I entered the no go zone, just shrugging my shoulders as best I could before narrowing my eyes... Three... Two... One... Grunting in pain when a clean snap and shatter began to echo through both the sky and me, a burning, searing pain consumed my nerves as my body bounced upwards from the rocky incline it had just made contact with. Shaking the dizziness out of me as my legs quickly returned to their normal state, grunting and quietly screaming out my misfortunes as I continued to tumble down the mountain I had so luckily landed on.
"Shit..."
One long groan left me as I stood up, thank whatever gods are out there I guess, that was frankly one of the worst bodily experiences I had to go through... Chances of me doing it again however are pretty much gone and dusted due to my legs having this lovely habit of growing back stronger after they broke properly... Like if my legs were just one continuous cycle of baby teeth going away and being replaced with adult teeth... Wobbling about slightly as my knees felt like jelly, lord, oh lord did they feel like jelly...
Slapping myself a few times to get back into order before leaning against a boulder for support, frowning as I looked about the area I had landed before I dug into the pockets of my suit, having put a small notepad in there to work with should my time travel go off without a hitch, and it did! Somewhat... Stroking my chin as I turned it towards the page that had the relevant details... One page was for the guy whom would give me the ability to sneak into my target, the other would make the item in question. Looking up at the night sky after I had given some thought to my self-given mission... The sky certainly looked beautiful for what it was worth... Good thing as well, last I checked Iceland had some lovely sky blockers during this time period. All I had to do was hope I set the dial to the correct date...
"Oh, yeah... He did say the device was an anchor of sorts... Crap..." groaning out my annoyance as I began to run towards my target, I was on a time limit that I forgot about and I was not sure how long I had, so more fun for me I guess! Vaulting over a few boulders before springing off a small drop and hooking one of my legs to the top of it, lowering myself down before I unhooked myself. Patting myself down as I saw my destination come into sight...
The home of a much younger Biolo...
"Wonder if she is still a picky one in this time as well..." I say as I think on my experiences with a much older version of her, nodding to myself in understanding when I realised that she was probably around my age now that I thought about it... Kind of creepy considering I knew her as more of a grandma-like figure... With a penchant for fusing technology and biological properties rather than sewing string and wool into sweaters... Though knowing her... She'd probably be able to make a sweater and somehow have it be an outlandish piece of technology... Tugging at the neckpiece of my costume when I thought about her more erratic stuff that she had claimed to have made when she was in her "young" phase... Crossing my fingers before I carried on walking...
And ducking into cover when I heard the unmistakable sound of sound breaking... Smiling to myself in relief when it became clear that I was in the correct time period... While I didn't have much of a connection to the guy... One had to simply respect the amount of credit this guy had, so I gulped down any potential excitement I may have had before I set my eyes down on a small collection of buildings by one of Iceland's ever so reputable coastlines of grey, jagged rock... Stepping down the last pile of stones that were in my way before I simply walked towards the building... No point in trying to sneak in to get what I want... Especially when I had him here... Guy could paste me in seconds if I tried anything... After all... I am sure my math is correct in that being able to run ninety or so miles-per-hour at best was easily trumped by someone who could go mach one on a dime...
So... I raised my hand on to the door... And knocked...
"Oh? One of your friends here, Union?" a girl from inside the building asked, breathing slowly as I heard the sound of heels tapping against the floor before the door opened, "Hello? Can I help you?" the now revealed girl asked as she stood there idly, her eyes were looking at my legs pretty much the moment they finished with their initial greeting. Standing there nervously as her eyes darted between my masked face and my legs...
She was about my height, give or take a few inches less, so most likely in the upper five-foot range, her head was decorated with a messy but well-kept mop of shining brown hair that was held back by a worn-out piece of string... Well alright then... Her eyes currently were covered in a pair of thick-rimmed goggles, presumably for protection only... I think... I know she wore them for eyesight as well but her age brings some questioning to it for now... The rest of her body was hidden, by what I could best compare to a hazmat suit, it's bumblebee yellow shone brightly under the, from my perspective, outdated lighting of the building I was standing in front of. Finally, on her back, there was a pair of hexagonal tanks which in turn connected to a few pipes that ran along the lengths of her arms and then narrowed out into two sets of fine nozzles that ended at the centre of her knuckles...
Shaking any weird feelings I was getting before, I gently moved her aside and walked up to the man I needed to talk to... The big guy himself... Union...
Compared to Biolo's gear, his was much simpler, and extremely patriotic if you wanted to be blunt... His costume was pretty much the result of him using his powers to turn a damaged Union Jack into it... Some physics-bending was involved in that stunt... Regardless, he was a giant of a man, standing at well over seven feet with the musculature to match... His entire body was covered head to toe in this, with the only gaps being a single cutout for his eyes, but those, in turn, would be covered by goggles most of the time, now included... But behind the tint of those goggles was nothing but terrifying power and wonder, blue sparks seemingly lit up his eyes as he gazed at me, their swirling might being incredibly alluring to the unfocused or weak minded. Guy also had a cape, but that was just another modified flag... Then again, what could you expect from a guy who was ordered by the Winston Churchill to be a symbol for all Brits during the Second World War...
"Helllllooooo? Who are you? I can't help if you don't tell me..." Biolo asked as she shoved herself into the gap between me and Union, stepping back in some surprise when her lack of care for personal boundaries was made clear by her apathy towards her nose being pressed against mine. Pacing about to the clack of my peg-legs as I tried to think about how I was going to go about this request for help... I didn't have the luxury of a common goal or knowing them...
"Alright, fine... Fine..." I mutter in defeat as I strip down the various clothes that covered my face, revealing my face to them before I went on to explain the rest, "My relevant name, for now, is Springboard. I am a member of the Neo Britannican Dedicator Divisions and I need your help... Oh, and I am also from the future... Listen I am sorry if this sounds strange... But you have to believe me!" I plead to them as one of my hands went about my face in frustration and was being used as a way to cope with this anxiety that was building up during this conversation... Time travel was a sticky mess if I was too careless and I think I just committed proverbial suicide by jumping into the heart of all of it...
"Future? Eh, not that strange all things considered." Biolo said uncaringly as she leaned her rear against the edge of a table, looking up at her before shaking my head clear of distractions so I could get back on track...
Somewhat...
"Apathy? Would've thought there would've been more surprise if I was entirely honest..." I say in some shock as I stop pacing about.
"Your appreciation for things really goes down when you know a guy whose powers target your so-called 'sins' and a girl who is more powerful when she is near places of worship... Oh, then there's clutzy there. He certainly makes science and everything else interesting for the most part..." Biolo said in casual disappointment as she pointed towards a waving Union at the end... She must've been referring to Red Devil and Southern Saint with that little tangent...
"Right... Anyway... Am I going to have to explain why I need help or are you fine to just go along with it for now...?" I ask in some slight impatience, very much preferring the idea of where they just did what I asked without asking for more... But that was just arrogantly foolish to assume, so I just resigned to the fact I may have to explain the situation. Even if it would be incredibly difficult for me to do on an emotional level...
"Some details would be nice, yes. The why you are here kind, not the mechanical shemanical kind." she quipped as she hopped back up to her feet with a smile and her hands spread out as far as she could stretch them. Waiting for her to be done with her little dance of pops and twists before I would go on to elaborate or anything...
"Very well, uh... Alright, so... I'm going to keep it brief... A friend of mine," I begin to say before gesturing towards Union, "who is essentially your replacement in the whole super-powered people hierarchy... He's going through some issues to put it lightly and I need a full body suit infused with the same power that Union's eyes give off and I know you happen to specialise in the combining of powers and materials together, Biolo..." I weakly utter as y focus was on suppressing memories of a certain man in my life... I was still too emotionally tender to even get it out... Pathetic for someone who has been through as much as I have...
"He tells the truth..." Union suddenly pipes in as he placed his goggles on his forehead before he pulled me in for a hug, trying my best to fight back against the overly friendly flying brick. Shaking my head of doubt and over problems before I turned back to Biolo as she silently nodded to herself...
"So... Can you make it or not?" I ask her as I opened the slim bag that was on me, pulling out the clothing that I needed to be infused and holding it in my free hand while the other clenched my time-anchor tightly...
"H-H-How do you know about my little... Codename...?" Biolo said in embarrassment as she shuffled her foot about... Raising an eyebrow at this behaviour before I just decided to brush it under the rug with a quick answer...
"Again, future. Presumably sometime when you're older you get confident in openly calling yourself it..." I tell her awkwardly as I had no idea on how to deal with such a situation for the most part... Having a limited social circle built up in a military setting seemed to do that apparently...
"Ah... But yeah, Union here could just do that himself... It's how Black Dog got his powers." Biolo answered with a shrug as she pointed towards the walking flag-giant near us... Looking up at him in hope as he stared at the piece of clothing... Smiling slightly when he took the clothing and began to shoot small blasts of blue energy at it before a large stream of it began to break the clothing apart. Panicking slightly when I was soon consumed in the light as well, but calming down when it ended and it becoming apparent that I was fine... Covered in new clothes now, but fine nonetheless.
"Thank you... Oh, and by the way, Union... Since when could you tell if someone is lying...? History books and documents say nothing on that..." I ask him after expressing my sincere gratitude for the man... Now I could go and save someone very important to me and put an end to someone else... Damn him to hell...
"I can't. But, it is easy to tell when someone is acting out of love and companionship." Union answered simply, leaving me slightly dumbstruck at how silly that was... Being able to emotionally fool people was something many a spy or trouble maker could do... But no point in complaining about it... All I knew was that my goal was just and well-meaning... And that's all that mattered to me for now...
"Fair enough I suppose..." I begin to say before my time travel device began to vibrate... Talk about convenience... "Well, I thank you for the help, but it appears that I must be going. So again, thank you... Both of you..." I tell them as I looked down with a smile, tears forming in the corner of my eyes at the fact my thoughts were being flooded with happy images... Me and my mentor could be back and going without issue...
But, I suppose that was what heroes were for... Giving you hope when you needed it the most...
Giving the duo a wave before I disappeared in a brief flash, stumbling about when I found myself back in familiar territory... The capital city of the empire I served... The empire I planned to bolster with the return of their greatest defender... Dropping the formerly useful device to the floor and stomping it into tiny pieces, setting my eyes on my next target once I was certain of its destruction, glaring once I saw the large, square-shaped, dome-topped building that lied past the statues and memorials of where I was currently... This new suit would allow me to get in there without triggering anybody's powers or the actual defences of the building... Provided I did not get spotted that is...
But sneaking was something that was extremely familiar to me... Dealing with terror groups along my home did more than enough to teach me... So I nodded to myself, flexed my legs a little, and began to run. Jumping and hopping over various obstacles, vaulting over a few cars before I extended my left leg so I could get access to the cables of Tower Bridge... Looking at my feet as I sprinted up the blue pieces of twisted steel, slowing down once I reached the first of the relevant towers... Ducking under the windows out of caution while I shuffled along the slimy stonework, some relief left me when I saw the kind of security package I would have to deal with once I reached my latest target...
Infantry... Not regulars... Only the finest the empire could give... Redcoats... No vehicles... As if these guys needed them... Courtesy of a more recent incarnation of Biolo... Clicking my tongue in my mouth before I crossed over to the next set of cables, this time sliding down them before I switched my direction towards some alleyways. Silently watching as a few trucks went by... Seemed like I lucked out with being here the same time the supply shipments came in... So when they were paused at a red light, courtesy of security for this place... I slid under the truck and practically began to hug the underbelly of this metal monster... Loosening my jaw up when the feeling of teeth vibrating against each other got uncomfortable...
Simply looking at my self in some misery as we went through god knows how many scans and checks... They didn't like people coming in uninvited to this place... Hell, London-Prime was like that in its entirety... One big military complex with the decorum to make it look like a city... Still better than having to cross the Colonial Wall though I suppose... If you didn't have some form of Neo Britannican military accompanying you, you'd be pasted by security and that in their zero-tolerance policy of just not liking the tiniest hint of a terrorist or rebel breaking in... Rather surprising they let the Line form up though if they had such aggressive border conduction...
My thoughts were brought to a halt however when the truck I hid under stopped, they had reached a cargo area it seemed, gently dropping myself to the concrete below and rolling out into the enclosed space of being just below the rear hatch as it was opened and used as a bridge of sorts for any goods the truck may have had on it... Stroking my chin as I peaked about, the ceiling was loaded with vents and hidey spots... But I had no clue how to navigate these areas...
"Attention all personnel, secure the area, the base is going under lockdown, repeat, the base is going under lockdown!" a speaker spouted out ever so suddenly, my nose twitched in annoyance as I drowned out the voice. It appeared someone either knew I was coming here or someone else had tried to break into the place... Lightly banging my head against the tire beside me before I decided on just doing it the hard way... A lockdown meant doors would be closing within three minutes if my memory and math were correct.
"Showtime I suppose..." I mutter in disappointment before I launched myself out into the open, knocking a worker to the floor with a kick to the head and skidding briefly before I began to dash for the doors, sliding past any alerted guards and rolling my eyes at the red lights that now blared in my face, knocking down a soldier before he had the chance to fire his weapon, snatching a few explosives from him as I carried on with my... Marathon... Throughout the base. I sped past unsuspecting people, knocking things away or down on my way to the target... A relatively small room... But an important one...
A dimensional gate...
The thing I needed to find an Earth that would have someone with the power to beat the bastard who bested my mentor...
Just barely making it into the room I needed to before it closed, leaning my back against a wall as I sighed out my frustration... Why did someone have to make me rush through this? Like, why? I didn't need this kind of pressure during such a crucial moment... Cracking my knuckles as I walked over to the gate control console... Unlike the larger ones, this one was just for singular personnel or a few dozen people... So it held fewer blocks to use... But it still held an absurd amount regardless... Luckily, I had my personal, official details that would allow me to use the machine... Or at the least get it started up...
Biting my lip in anticipation for problems, but thankfully, I could breath easy as my details hadn't been blocked or redacted yet... Not sure how long that would last though... So without further delay, I began the gate's startup sequence... Smiling happily as it whirred to life, my mind cared little for the muffled shouting that could be heard behind the entrance door... They did not matter now... I was in the final phase of my plan for the moment...
The leap of faith so to speak...
"CUSTER! STOP WHAT YOU ARE DOING AND STAND DOWN!" shouted an all too familiar female voice as they tore through the vents above me... Jumping away from the falling debris and glaring at who had managed to get in with her and her herself... WHY WERE THEY TRYING TO STOP ME!?
"Itsy... Back off... NOW!" I told the girl dangerously as she stood up from her drop, her exotic features reacting to the fact she was prepared to fight me... One person accompanied her... One of our teammates... Mustard...
"Custer...! Please! Just think about what you're doing!" Itsy pleaded as she took a few tentative steps forward... Her reluctance showing... How she knew to come after me here though was interesting... She must've spoken to those aboard a certain space station orbiting this lovely planet called Earth...
"I have, Itsy! Now, get the hell away from me...!" I told her as I quickly looked at the gate that Mustard was currently trying to power down... His features were not visible however as his gas mask prevented any kind of insightful look upon his frustration... He most certainly was frustrated... I snuck something into the console while I was putting in my details to disconnect any emergency stops attached to the machine... But he didn't know that, because he still had yet to actually get on... The fact I rarely used computers or smartphones made it difficult for him to narrow down a login password...
"Surely you must know that doing this won't bring him back... Right?" she asked as tears poured down her face, but they weren't for him... But for me... While I was greatly saddened by the fact this would hurt her very much so, I couldn't simply use that as a reason to not go and help my mentor!
"It's worth a shot... And it sure as hell is a lot better than lounging about with you doing nothing to solve it!" I spat out angrily as Mustard moved onwards towards the circuits themselves, toxic gasses began to leave the gaps in his clothes as he tried to smash the machine off. Glaring at him, kicking Itsy out of the way with a surprise shot to the head before I ran a sharpened foot through the eyepiece of Mustard's gas mask. Listening to him panic as his gaseous body was forced out of the suit and into a nearby ventilation system before I dashed back, slamming a foot on to the final button and opening the gate... Smiling in a psychotic manner as I rolled along the floor and into a metre wide radius away from it... Slowly getting up and then grunting in pain when Itsy grabbed my hand and slammed me into a wall...
"STOP IT!" she screamed into my face as I struggled under her tremendous strength... I was unable to act as she forced my head into a position where I would have to look into her tearful eyes... A common tactic of hers in our partnership... Guilt trip me with a look into her gentle eyes... But it wouldn't work this time... But I still couldn't move... So I just had to put up with her placing her head against my neck as she cried into it... Her short, white-hair filling my face s she sobbed against me... No tears soaked through though, Union's lovely addition made sure of that...
I did have a way out though...
Letting out a depressed sigh and calming down as she cried into me, watching as she pulled her head back and smiled softly as she let one of my hands rub her cheek, the touch of her pale skin being lost on me due to the suit, the strange sensation of rubbing her webbing mandibles also being gone... Smirking under the mask as her insectoid eyes glistened under the tear-soaked light entering them... She soon began to take some steps back as my body grew lax... She shouldn't of done that, she let our friendship dictate her actions... She shouldn't have done that...
Itsy... I truly am sorry for how much this will hurt you...
Swiftly moving my knee up and striking her in her exposed gut, raising the other one and then using her as a pedestal to leap over and rolling along the floor as she stood there silently... Whimpers were all that came out of her as I stood up... Slowly backing away towards the gate as she cried out her grief, there was one thing I needed to be careful of...
And there it was...
"Springboard...! You're coming with me...!" Itsy angrily spat out with enough venom to topple a kingdom and then some, she was angry, and she had every right to be... Flinching when the thing I was worried about happened, her ever so helpful extra limbs... Four sharp pieces of flesh that were stronger than a tank, insect-shaped and capable of pulping me if they ever got a direct hit... But the worst thing is probably the fact she didn't use my actual name, this was the first time since I found her in that basement that she had done that...
It hurt... But I deserved it...
"No. No, I will not." I simply tell her in response as I adjust to a more combat useful pose, my normally dull peg-legs now steadily sharpening and carving small canyons into the metal flooring under me... Ducking under her first strike and retaliating with a few quick jabs to her joints, running away from her as she began to tear up the room into more movable chunks. Sliding and ducking before I began to run along the walls and hooking on to whatever decorated the ceiling above, shifting my right leg into a blade when she began to spit out small globes of webbing from her mouth. She knew how to deal with me, get me to focus on keeping my feet in an adjustable state or be pressed into a me-shaped crater in the floor...
However, she was arrogant to believe that she must've been the only one to have control of this situation, using my flexibility to use one of my legs as a hook on to one of her spider-limbs. Grinding its sharpened surface against her carapace before letting go and striking her in the torso, she used one of her normal hands to catch my foot before she began to crack it under her grip as she ploughed me into the floor. Mutating my leg outwards and encompassing her hand in a block of time-burned bone, slamming her to the floor via an overhead kick and then following it up with a strike to her vulnerable head. Hopping off of her as she simply licked the drop of blood that fell from her once flawless lips... Turning heel and going to the gate as she chased me, looking down at my suit as I clipped a small sack of unopened mining explosives to the area a belt might normally go.
Finding my head soon in a daze when she swept me off my feet, groaning as hers landed on my gut, the air rushing out of my lungs as her emotional pain became my physical pain... It seemed she made a little mistake though... My legs were in an angle of where I could bend them and put them into the portal... All I needed was a brief touch and the... Gravity... Would pull me in and solve the rest...
"Don't get too comfortable!" Itsy snidely remarked as she bent over to pick me up, a small smirk was hidden from her before I put all my focus into a single leg, shooting it out across the last few metres that kept me from the portal and making a small gesture at her as I was sucked into the portal. Her screams of frustration, however, were followed up with her foolishly grabbing me...!
"LET GO!" I shouted as she slammed her spider-legs into the sides of the gate, one of her hands locked tightly on the fleshy part of my leg as her fingers dug into my skin and muscle, the sound of fabric tearing making it clear that she was willing to break me to get me to stop...
I was lucky to have such a dedicated friend...
But unlucky to have her be in my way...
"NO! I WILL NOT! AND THERE'S NOTHING YOU CAN DO!" she shouted back as she began to pull me away from the portal, her legs being used as tethers against the strength of the portals suction. But her words gave me an idea, one that worked quite well the last time I was able to properly use it!
So I gave a little chuckle before looking at her straight in the eye, "Oh?" I let out before I suddenly pulled myself towards her, locking my free leg against her most vulnerable arm and making a lock around it, sharpening the blade that protruded from the centre of it all before I began to groan to the vibrations of it moving... A braced jackhammer essentially, watching as she began to wince in pain, blood was flying everywhere as she refused to stand down, but I couldn't do that...
"ITSY! LET GO BEFORE I TAKE YOUR HAND OFF!" I yell as she silently glared at me, her face decorated with splatters of blood as my leg began to knock against the very bone in her arm, it having long since torn through everything else... But she wouldn't listen, she just soldiered through it and kept backing off with her hand digging into my thigh... So I stopped attacking her like I was... And I just cut her other arm with a long drawn out pass by... Now I was finally going in, but she leapt after me... Her body crashed violently into mine just as the portal whisked me off to another Earth...
Our change in scenery was sudden, and it was violent... From one of the most secure military facilities on the planet and into a busy underpass... A rough snort left me as my back smashed against the front window of someone's family car, smacking face first into the tarmac and slamming against the support of what seemed to be a bridge. Itsy, on the other hand, landed on her feet but found herself slamming her spider-legs into a speeding lorry that just started having its horn being honked continuously by a very shocked driver, his pain was heard by me as the front of his vehicle crumpled under Itsy's strength. Slowly getting up with a groan as all the cars on this particular road began to suddenly stop and their noises were soon drowned out by the screams of bystander's and the occupants of the driver's...
But I had another problem... Because of Itsy's stunt... It appeared we sparked a bit of wrath from somebodies time controlling god... And I was now in a much younger body... Still mine, but one I had when I first started with this superhero for the government crap... Before I had my dance lessons to become more flexible... Before Ded5... Before I met Itsy and joined the army... Certainly a shocker... But the biggest shock was being experienced by Itsy...
She hated crowds... And I would have to abuse that, going to the satchel I had attached to my suit before opening it, tearing out the contents and turning them on before I then threw them at Itsy as she tried to hide herself from what must've been hell for her... She was extremely self-conscious about her appearance... Too much of an idea that she was an unlovable monster...
Running away as she panicked, people were reacting and some were even tossing about powers... This place must've had dedicator's as well... Quite a few it seemed... And once I had gotten to a safe enough distance from her... I whispered an apology before starting the countdown with the detonator that was in the package with the small marble sized explosives... Her face filled with panic as she flung the explosives off of her spider-legs and into the bridge supports... My eyes widened when the bombs blew through the rebar and concrete, causing the bridge to collapse under its own weight and straight on to Itsy...
Shaking my head before I ran off towards the city I saw not far from me, I needed to get away from here... And there was only one image that was in my head as I ran as it became obvious law enforcement was mobilising... Itsy, screaming in pain as she desperately tried to hold the falling bridge up... But her drive to stop me had been sapped and she was faltering under the physical injuries I had given her... And the screams of civilians accompanied hers as they presumably huddled each other in their cars...
.
.
.
"Dammit, Itsy... Why couldn't you have just listened..."
.
.
.
On another Earth, in a time long passed but recently visited...
"Union...? What are you doing?" I asked the mentally stunted giant as they aimlessly stared at the broken clock on my wall... His general... Uniqueness... Made it hard to guess what was going on in his head... And it wasn't because he was stupid... I've dealt with enough stupid people to know he wasn't one... He was just slow, to put it mildly. Looking at him expectingly as he just limply turned to face me before he returned his attention to the clock, a brief zap coming from him, a little tick followed that before the clock violently exploded outwards. Brushing off the pieces of glass that had found themselves on my suit before walking next to him as he stood there unharmed. Jabbing him in the side of the ribs before I went back to what I was doing...
"Future..."
"Hm?" I responded back after he had muttered something out of his lead-lined head. Nodding to myself when I realised that he must've been going on about that young man who visited us a week or so ago. Strange chap.
"I want to help him." Union uttered as he tried to put the clock back together by hand, chuckling to myself before I took it away from him, his hands having lacked the finesse to even put it back together... I swear he was only good at things when he wanted to save lives... Side effect of being a child on the inside I guess then... All that optimism had to go somewhere I supposed...
"I would probably laugh that off... But knowing you... You probably figured out what you needed to do with your eyeballs not long after he left, didn't you?" I joke at him as I sat down on a stool and returned my focus to the soldering kit I had out before me, taking it out from its holster and steadily applying it to the machine that I was working on. Occasionally blowing at the metal as smoke built up from the scorching of material, soft and hard, ferrous and not. Tapping the side of the device I was working on to make sure it sounded alright, not wanting to have to tear it apart to find any flaws within the design.
"No... But I know how to follow him..." Union answered as he began to carve a hole in my wall, big enough to fit him and big enough to cause a sudden gust of air to blow smoke I had spent a few moments blowing away from me, back at me. Sighing to myself as I turned to face Union again, taking my goggles off as he began to carve stuff into my floors. Laughing quietly to myself as he gave me a notable dent into my budget by making something that would dig into my heating and gas budget... No! Wait, my heating was supplied entirely by a geothermal vent I had built my workshop on.
"You always did have a knack for helping people... Didn't you?" I tell him pointlessly as he went into the portal he had just made, and as quickly as he had disappeared, the portal did so. Shaking my head in bemusement as more chilling arctic winds blew in, looking around the building I was in before I simply decided to pack up and be on my way... I had no clue on how to deal with my new building decor and messing with it might somehow end up messing with Union's way back... And the world would never forgive me if I cut them off from one of their greatest hopes to not be under the iron fist of the nation most of Europe was at war with.
"Be safe, Union... Sometimes helping isn't always the best choice..." I warn him, in spite of the fact that he probably couldn't hear me, I felt like I needed to get it off of my chest during this moment... I've seen the results of him going into hostile territory with no to little aid, it didn't end well for him, so all I could do was give him whatever blessings I could so he would hopefully come out safe... The world needed people like him more than ever now and him dragging himself off to help one person could doom many others to a fate worse than what Death had planned for them...
Placing a hand to my chin as I picked up my project and opened the door, "Wonder if what I do from now on will be erased when he gets back..." I curiously ask myself as I step outside. Time travel was a fickle thing and I had no idea how it would affect reality, but the fact we had super-powered beings suddenly existing since the early thirties was more than enough to show that the world had greatly diverged from what the plans of science originally had intended...
On the "newly" discovered Earth...
"Dammit! What the hell happened back in the passenger area!?" I asked in alarm as the plane I was piloting violently rocked under the dictatorship of a violent blast that had just torn its way through the side of the plane. The plane had taken quite a beating, not only was our hull now broken and exposed to a sudden pressure change, but the damage had also spread to the right side wing of the plane and the engines present along it. Things were certainly not looking good at all for us at the moment...
"Some kids Quirk decided to come out!" my co-pilot answered as he looked through some screens, rewinding some recordings so he could reliably answer me. Flipping a few switches before I returned my attention back to him, I needed more information from him, and luckily, he had an idea of what I wanted to know, "Sound-based Quirk it seems..." he said as he returned his attention back towards his end of the cockpit. Nodding to myself while eyeing the hero who happened to be on board as they tried to block the hole and prevent anyone from falling out of the plane.
"Just great... Just my fucking luck, a late bloomer..." I comment as I wiped my forehead clean of some sweat, gulping down my saliva as I tightened my grip on the steering equipment... Flipping a few switches before I pick up the radio near me. Taking a few breaths to calm myself before I pushed down on the button to get it turned on, "Ground Control! Do you copy? Repeat! Ground Control! Do you copy!?" I said loudly into the radio as the plane shook some more, the sound of screeching metal making the situation much more stressful.
"This is Ground Control, what's the issue, Flight 789?" the person on the other side asked.
"We just had a late Quirk activation tear open the plane! Do you have any heroes on standby that can help!?" I urgently asked, but my attention was immediately torn away from the radio when the damaged wing tore itself off, having been too weak to hold itself together after that Quirk damaged it. Panicking as I tried to do something... Anything...!
"Flight 789!? We just saw you lost your wing!? Flight 789!?" the guy asked as our plane entered a violent freefall, turning to my co-pilot one last time before I looked through the front of the plane... Nobody was going to get here in time... No one...
"Attention all passengers... This is your captain speaking, if you have any family with you, now might be the time to tell them you love them..." I told the passenger's and non-present crew via the speaker system before I leaned back in my chair, depressed at the fact I couldn't do anything to help these people beyond giving them a final warning about what was imminent...
Looking up slightly when a loud boom vibrated its way through the cockpit, checking the computer's in response but growing confused at the fact no further alerts came up...
But there was something to be happy about... A hero had made it!
Mentally cheering as they flew alongside the plane before they went in front of it, their eyes swiftly lit up as they positioned themselves and the plane soon found itself completely engulfed in a bright blue aura... What kind of Quirk was this...?
I was having trouble not breaking out in relieved laughter as the plane began to slow down, I couldn't see the hero anymore as they had gone under the nose of the plane, but it was clear that they were still here. Forcing back a smile as the sound of cheering erupted throughout the plane once we had been set down on to an inactive runway at the airport we were originally destined for. Nodding at my co-pilot before I unbuckled myself and headed towards the back of the plane, opening one of the doors so the approaching emergency vehicles could get us out of here. But I personally just hopped down on to the tarmac below so I could get a look at the damage.
What I saw however was nothing short of amazing... That same hero was currently using their Quirk to reattach the lost wing and somehow seal the hole in the plane before they then proceeded to carry people down to the floor below. Taking my hat off and watching as the hero spent a few minutes observing the plane before they landed in front of the crowd that had formed up near them. Smiling slightly as people were asking the hero a barrage of various questions...
"Who are you?"
"What's your name?"
"What kind of Quirk do you have!?"
The hero answered none of them... So it was somewhat clear they didn't have much of a PR persona... Hell, they didn't even talk... They just rubbed some kids head before they began to float off, and once they were away a certain distance...
The sky cracked under a boom... One thing was clear though... They were certainly going to need a good PR persona... One doesn't just stop a plane like that and go off into the shadows...
A/N: Heya fella's! If you feel like you need to ask a question, don't be afraid of asking in the "review" section or my PM's!
So just to clarify here, there's going to be three protag's, Custer/Springboard, he'll be our main one for the most part, Itsy will be our secondary one and Union, while story relevant will have his chapters be done through the POV of someone else as I intend for him to be more of a world effecting one due to possibly obvious reasons.
