So by now you probably think I'm totally depressed and stuff because of all the sad and angsty stories I've been writing. I'm actually perfectly happy, though, and find odd joy in writing sad things. I actually wrote this a long time ago based off of Demi Lovato's song title, Don't Forget. I hadn't even heard the song, but I liked the name so I wrote something. Anyway, I found this thing scribbled on a few pieces of paper torn from an old spiral yesterday and remembered how much I liked it. I hope you like it, too! :)
"She wants to see you." The kind nurse said to him. He numbly stood up and walked into her plain room. Blindingly white except for the red roses he'd brought her a few days ago.
He saw her weak figure lying on the bed and it was all he could do not to yell out in agony. She was still so young, and had so much more left to do. She didn't deserve death, but it was inevitable now.
He knelt to her bedside, lightly picking up her cold hand and pressing his lips gently to it. She breathed deeply and smiled at him, her eyes filled with love and sadness.
"Hi."
"Hi." He whispered back, smiling sadly at her, trying his hardest to be strong. He couldn't cry in front of her. That would only make her feel worse than he knew she already did.
A small crease formed between her eyebrows as she suddenly asked, "You won't forget, will you?"
He just looked at her, his eyes shining with tears. He would have normally told her not to talk like that, but they'd been through that many times before. All he could do now was answer truthfully. A tear escaped from his eye.
"I could never, never ever forget you, Mitch. Not ever." He stroked her fragile looking cheek with his gentle finger.
She breathed a sigh of light relief and he had to turn his face away to wipe off the tears coming down his face. She reached her hand out to touch his cheek. "It's okay. You can cry." She whispered soothingly. He turned back to her and let all the tears fall freely. Now he had her permission.
"I love you, Mitchie. I love you so much. I'll always love you and I'll never forget you. No matter what happens. I love you." He told her in a determined voice.
She let a tear of her own trickle down her face as she wiped away one of his.
"I love you…" She said brokenly. She took a shuddering breath and winced at the pain it caused her. Her eyes glistened as she looked at him. "I have to go…" Her eyes pleaded for him to accept. She'd accepted long ago, and she would only be able to rest peacefully if she knew he had, too.
He let out a choked cry. "I know you do, baby. I know." He leaned down shakily to kiss her trembling lips.
"Don't forget." She reminded him. She only had two wishes. Acceptance, and for her memory to live on.
"Never." He vowed.
She smiled through her tears.
"I love you."
"I love you." He whispered.
She smiled peacefully and closed her eyes.
His tears came down like a silent waterfall and he gripped her hand more tightly, not wanting her to go, but knowing she needed to.
And then he knew she was gone. Her hand became limp and icy, but he still held on.
He thought back on everything she'd ever taught him. She'd taught him to accept, she'd taught him how to live, she'd taught him how to love. She'd taught him the most important things he needed in life.
He wanted to do those things now, even though he didn't think he could. Mitchie would have wanted him to, and all he'd ever wanted was to make her happy. So that's what he would do now. He would accept, he would live, and he would love, even if it would be painful.
That was all he could do.
I hope that made you smile or cry or brought up some kind of emotion. Please review! It makes me smile a lot. :)
