The Greatest Man I Never Knew

Based on the hit song by Reba McEntire

Disclaimers: I Do NOT OWN!! (reapeats it again and again) Hiei: Okay! We get the point! K-T: Thank you! Okay, I need a break from MPWTAC, so I decided to write this one. Hiei: Actually, she wrote it in April and has been meaning to get it up here. K-T: Thanks! Anyway, this is a corny tragedy. I wrote when I first heard the song "The Greatest Man I Never Knew", by Reba McEntire (sp?) Anyways, hope you enjoy it!

The greatest man I never knew,

Lived just down the hall.

I was washing dishes that day. Yamcha and all of the fighters had gone off to fight the Androids that the boy from the future had informed us of three years ago. My mind was on other things. Namely, him. The father of my child. Go figure. No one ever would have guessed it: Vegeta and I, a couple, and the parents of the boy who came from the future three years ago.

And everyday we said hello,

But never touched at all.

He was in his chamber,

I was in my room.

How was I to know he thought I hung the moon?

I hope he's alright, I kept thinking. Well, of course he was. He promised me that he would never leave me, even for the world.

The greatest man I never knew,

Came home late every night.

He never had too much to say,

Too much was on his mind.

On the fourth day he was gone, I glanced over at the clock. 10:00 PM. I hope he's alright, I kept right on thinking. As I tried to drown out our memories with the T.V, they kept coming: When he first came to Earth, when we saw eachother on Namek, how much I was afraid he could kill me any second, when I invited him to stay with me at my home, and when he found out that he was a father of a little baby boy named Trunks, and when we both found out that the future boy was our son.

Then the days turned into years,

And the memories to black and white.

He grew cold like an old winter wind,

Blowing across my life.

I never really knew him.

And now it seems so sad,

Everything he gave to me took all he had.

My thoughts were interrupted by Trunks suddenly running in (Future Trunks, that is.). It looked as if he was in great pain, both physically and emotionally. "What is it?!", I shouted.

The greatest words I never heard,

I'll guess I'll never hear.

The man I thought could never die,

S'been dead almost a year.

No, its not true, I kept repeating in my head, as I looked at the stone. "You bastard!!" I screamed at the stone. "You said you would never leave me!!!!". I then broke down in tears and felt a tapping on my shoulder.

He was good at business,

But there was business left to do.

The little boy looked down at me with pleading eyes. I sighed. "Alright, you win, Trunks. I guess we'll go home now," I told my son. I looked back down at the stone, which read: "In memory of Prince Vegeta, a great warrior, and my husband."

That night, I couldn't sleep. Too much was on my mind, too much unsaid. Then before I drifted off to sleep, I could have sworn I heard, "I love you". It was just my imagination.

He never said he loved me

Or, maybe, it was something more.

Guess he thought I knew.
