Hey everypony! What's up!?

So I rewatched the episode, "Hearthbreakers" (The one where MarbleMac should have become canon for the rest of the show…) today and I really liked the beginning, the interaction between Twilight and Spike which gave me this idea, the first Hearth's Warming that Twilight and Spike spent today and have started their own tradition.

Enjoy!

"Now can we open presents?" Spike asks Twilight excitedly.

"But tonight is Hearth's Warming Eve. Everypony knows you don't open presents 'til tomorrow." Applejack reminds Spike as she turns around.

"When Spike and I spent our first Hearth's Warming Eve together, he couldn't wait all night to open his presents! Ever since then, we've always opened them the night before!" Twilight explains while rubbing her hoof on Spike's head.

"It's kinda like our tradition!" Spike adds as Twilight puts her hoof back down to the ground.

Many moons ago, in Canterlot...

It was a snowy Hearth's Warming Eve in the majestic city of Canterlot, everypony asleep to await the morning of Hearth's Warming to begin the real celebrations. In one of the houses, a young little purple unicorn filly was sleeping in her bed when she heard some noise which woke her up.

"Huh?" The filly said as she opened her eyes, rubbing them with her hoofs to clear them, looking around she noticed that a certain somepony was missing from her room. "Where did you go…"

Hearing the noise again, the filly was a bit scared and decided to go and wake her parents. The filly trotted down the dark hallways, the only way being her unicorn magic from her horn as she got to her parents' bedroom. Her parents were fast asleep as the filly went over to her dad's side.

"Dad, dad, wake up." The filly repeated as she tried shaking her dad awake.

"Twilight, in the morning sweetie…" The filly's father answered back, not even opening his eyes to peek as he rolled around around to get comfortable.

The filly, Twilight, finally gave up and decided to go see what the noise was herself. Being brave, she again lit up her horn to light the way down to where the noise was, coming from the living room, where the family set up the tree, their presents under it.

As Twilight trotted downstairs to the living room, she saw a shadowy figure going through the presents, thinking that whoever it was was trying to steal them, Twilight turned on the lights in the room with her magic and was just about to blast the figure to scare him or her off, only to stop right away.

It was a little purple baby dragon and he was trying to open a present with his claws, which were still not that sharp.

"Spike, what are you doing?" Twilight asked the baby dragon. "You should be asleep."

Spike, the dragon, was adopted by Twilight and her family, after having come from the egg which was Twilight's entrance exam to Celestia's school for gifted unicorns. Over the months, even thought he was a dragon and not a pony, Twilight and her family gave their love and attention to Spike, making sure he felt welcomed. When Hearth's Warming Eve came, Twilight and her family taught Spike all about the holiday and made sure he enjoyed his time with all the celebrations. Apparently Spike was too excited about the opening presents part so he wanted to open them before anypony else.

"Are you trying to open your presents now?" Twilight seeing what Spike was holding onto. "Spike, you know you have to wait until the morning to open them."

Since he was still just a little baby, Spike has yet to speak, so he just gave a sad look that made Twilight change her mind.

"Alright, I guess we can open one or two tonight, but next year you have to wait okay?" Twilight smiling to Spike as spike became happy again.

Twilight used her unicorn magic to bring over a lit candle and place it between the two. After that, she used her magic to take a certain present along the pile to give to Spike.

"Open this one Spike, this is my present to you." Twilight smiled as she used her magic to place the present in Spike's claws.

Spike ripped the paper wrapping, with some difficulty and saw something he has never seen before, it was a stack of paper, bound together by hard covering. The baby dragon looked up at Twilight, showing that he didn't know what it was.

"It's a book Spike, a picture book that's easy for you to understand." Twilight answered as she took the book with her magic and opened it, showing Spike the story told by pictures.

Spike seemed to like it as he laughed a little, making Twilight smile. This night was just wonderful, alone with Spike, in front of the Hearth's Warming tree, opening presents by the candlelight. It was the making of a new tradition.

"You know what Spike, maybe we should do this every year, it's actually quite enjoyable, do you agree?" Twilight asked.

Spike shook his head, "Yes", delighted to hear what Twilight said.

"Great, lets get back to the book shall we?" And Twilight resumed with the story.

And so it was that Twilight and Spike carried on their personal tradition every Hearth's Warming Eve, remembering the night when it all started.

Sorry it's short, but I hope everypony did enjoy it!
