Jared Mudd stared at the giant building ahead of him, with a giant sign that read "Freddy Fazbear's Pizza - Come and Play!" hovering near it. He hadn't been in the area for years, not since he had got his job at retail. He had recently quit the job upon seeing that his all-time favorite restaurant had an open position as the night guard. He'd be able to spend time at Freddy's without needing to deal with screaming children. It was his dream job.
He walked into the restaurant, and went over to the counter.
The man at the counter looked up from his newspaper and immediately said, "Are you here for the job?"
"Yes, sir," Jared responded.
"Head on down to the office at the far end of the building. The manager will be there," the man said, turning back to the newspaper.
Jared walked past the screaming children and noticed security guards standing in the corners, eyeing him. Last time he was at the restaurant years back, there weren't security guards there. He wondered why they were there, in what he considered to be the safest children's restaurant in the world. Jared also noticed that there were less children there than he expected. And strangest of all, the Pirate's Cove attraction that he and so many others loved as children was now shut down, with a big sign that read "Out of order!"
Jared got up to the office and knocked on the wooden door. The manager looked in at him through the window, opened the door a crack, and asked, "What do you want?"
"I'm here for the job," Jared replied.
The manager practically threw open the door. "Come in, come in! Take a seat!"
Jared walked inside and sat down on one of the office's swivel chairs.
"My name is Theodore Fazz, and I'm the manager of this establishment. Who are you?" asked the manager.
"Jared Mudd," Jared replied.
Mr. Fazz continued to ask Jared all the basic questions, and then he moved on to the talking about the job.
"The position you're applying for here at Freddy's will require you to stay awake from 12 AM to 6 AM, after everybody else has left the building. You will watch the restaurant from this office using a newly installed system of cameras, and make sure nobody comes in," said Mr. Fazz.
"What about staff?" asked Jared.
"The rest of our staff isn't allowed in until your shift is over, so if anybody does come in, call the police. Do you understand?" Mr. Fazz asked.
"Yes, sir," Jared replied.
"Alright, good. Let me show you how the cameras work," said Mr. Fazz. The two walked over to a tablet lying on the office desk.
"This tablet turns on just by touching the screen," said the manager. "All these little buttons around here will switch cameras when they're touched. Go ahead, try it out," said Mr. Fazz.
While Jared was watching the cameras, he asked, "Mr. Fazz, may I ask why there's so much security now? When I used to come here as a kid, there were no guards or cameras or anything," said Jared.
Mr. Fazz looked at him, shocked, and said, "You don't know what-er, about what happened?"
Jared looked up. "What?"
Mr. Fazz looked at Jared for a few moments, then coughed and straightened up his tie. "W-well, it doesn't matter," he said. When he saw that Jared was still staring at him, Mr. Fazz said, "No, really, it doesn't! It's not important, really," and he looked away.
"Uh...alright then...so, uh, do I have the job?"
"Yes, you have the job. Be here by 11:30. Remember, midnight to 6 AM," Mr. Fazz said. "Now, please, I have some important paperwork to work on right now. Feel free to look around the place," Mr. Fazz said. "Oh, and take these keys," he said, dropping keys into Jared's hands. "There's a flashlight somewhere on my desk. You'll probably need it."
There was only one room in the building Jared wasn't already familiar with. The employees-only room, the backstage. As a kid, he was afraid that if he walked in there, he would get caught and be kicked out. He never imagined as a kid that he would ever actually become an employee of the company.
He walked over to the door to the backstage and gently pushed it open. He was rather surprised at what he saw. There was a big metal endoskeleton that had been sat down at one end of a long work table, surrounded by shelves filled with empty animatronic heads. There was a big garbage bag in the corner with a Foxy head ear sticking out.
Jared wasn't sure what he expected to see. He had never really thought about the animatronics without suits or heads...or a skeleton that keeps it all together. How many different Freddy's had he watched perform as a kid, without knowing that they were different? It wasn't a comforting thought.
He walked out of the backstage and looked over at the three large animatronics standing on the show stage. When he was a kid, the animatronics would walk around, "talking" to the children and advertising their mediocre cheese pizzas. Now they just performed from a safe distance, without leaving their stage. Jared wondered why they weren't moving anymore…
He walked out of the restaurant and over to his car, unlocking the doors. Before climbing in, he looked back at the restaurant and sighed. Even though he hadn't been inside in years, he was expecting the place to be just like it used to be, with walking and talking animatronics, Foxy putting on a show, and filled to the brim with screaming children. The place just didn't have the same magic as it used to have.
Jared returned to the restaurant that night at 11:45 PM. He was a little late, but figured Mr. Fazz probably wouldn't notice and the rest of staff had probably already left. He walked over to the front door and unlocked it using the special keys that Mr. Fazz had given him. He walked in and locked the doors behind him, and then turned on the flashlight Mr. Fazz had told him about earlier.
Jared looked around the building. It was much more eerie in the dark. He looked up at the three lifeless animatronics on the stage. They were standing completely still and staring ahead at the wall. As creepy as they were in the dark, Jared still admired the characters. The animatronics were truly ahead of their time. Back when he was a kid, Jared remembered that the characters almost seemed...alive.
Freddy was always his favorite animatronic. He had the best jokes, and was the leader of the band. A lot of people liked Foxy more, but Jared preferred the main band. He also liked Bonnie and Chica quite a lot, but Freddy was always the star of the show for him.
Jared walked down to the manager's office, where he was supposed to spend the night. He thought that the job would be pretty easy. He had never heard of a restaurant like Freddy's being broken into during the night. Not that he was sure exactly what anybody would want to steal from a place like this anyway.
He suddenly heard beeping from a nearby alarm clock that he supposed Mr. Fazz had left, signalling the beginning of the shift. After a few moments, he began to hear ringing, then a voice.
"Uh, hello, hello? Um, due to recent events, we've decided to open a new position at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza for a night guard, who will oversee the building between 12 AM to 6 AM. This is, uh, a pre-recorded message intended to help you, the night guard, do your job. Uh, this is a reminder that nobody but you and the manager is allowed inside the building during these hours, and if anybody else does enter, then please lock the doors and call the police. That's, uh, 911." Jared listened carefully, very interested.
"Please watch the building using the, uh, newly installed camera system connected to the tablet on your office desk. Uh, remember that the tablet will activate simply by touching the screen, and you can switch cameras by touching the little b-buttons at the bottom right of the, uh, tablet screen." Jared began to relax, under the impression that this recording was just telling him what he already learned from Mr. Fazz.
"A-and finally, please be aware that due to the company's, uh, recent decisions to limit the animatronic characters' mobility during the daytime, the animatronics m-may walk around during the night so that their servos don't lock up. P-please let them do their thing, they probably will not bother you, close your doors on them if you feel threatened. Uh, that's it from me, have a g-good night." The recording stopped.
Jared just stared at the phone, thoroughly creeped out at the thought of the animatronics walking around aimlessly during the night. He jumped over to the tablet, only to find that all the animatronics were still in place. He breathed a sigh of relief, and continued to dash through all the different cameras, before noticing something. There was a bar at the bottom right corner of his screen that read, "POWER: 94% LEFT."
He had no idea that the building was running on a limited power supply. He looked above at the dim light hanging above his head, and the large fan on his desk. The building was unusually warm, so he didn't want to turn the fan off, and the dim light was the only light in the room. He decided not to turn either off.
After a while, Jared decided to get some rest. It was against the rules, but he figured that nobody would notice and that nobody would try to break into a place like Freddy's anyway. The animatronics weren't dangerous, so he had nothing to worry about. He pushed his swivel chair back and rested his legs on top of the office desk. It wasn't comfortable, but after a few minutes, he fell asleep.
…
A few hours had passed before Jared finally snapped awake to the sound of a heavy metal footstep. He reached over to turn on his tablet before realizing that it was already on - he had left the tablet on for hours. The building had 23% power left, and it was only 4:30 AM.
Jared moved his eyes up from the power bar to the show stage, and stared in horror as he realized that Bonnie was gone. He began rapidly flicking through the cameras until he saw Bonnie's lifeless face staring directly into the camera in the Backstage. He jumped back - he didn't understand completely why he was so afraid, as he knew already that the animations would walk around during the night, but there was something very eerie. He jumped again when he heard more footsteps. Cautiously, he stepped outside his office for a moment and shined his flashlight down the hall into the dining area. He saw Bonnie stop moving, and then turn his head over to him. Bonnie was looking directly at Jared with his big, fake, glossy eyes. Bonnie then began to walk towards him.
Panicking, Jared jumped back into the office and slammed the door, searching for his keys in his pockets. As he was doing so, he heard more footsteps, and assumed it was Bonnie leaving. Jared finally found his keys and locked the door. He turned on the light switch on the wall, and the hallway filled with light. Bonnie's shadow loomed through the window, unmoving. Jared shut off the light, and turned on his tablet. He switched the camera over to the hallway corner that Bonnie was standing in, and couldn't find the robot. Jared realized in horror that the spots right next to the door were blind spots, and the only way he'd be able to realize something was right outside his door would be if he looked.
He looked up only to find Chica staring at him through the door, beak hanging open, dead-eyed. He let out a little shriek and kicked the door shut on the machine. He rushed over to the door to locked it, but found himself needing to hold it shut as Chica tried to get in. Jared turned around and put all his strength into holding it shut, as he tried to insert the keys in his hand into the keyhole. He eventually managed to lock it on her, but then heard banging on the other door. He grabbed his swivel chair and used it to hold Chica's door shut, and rushed over to the door Bonnie was trying to tear open. While holding it shut, he quickly checked the amount of power the building had left.
16%.
Jared quickly rushed back to the other side of the office and turned on the light switch for the hallway next to it. Chica was now staring at him through the window. Freaking out, Jared went back to Bonnie's door and looked back at the tablet, switching his camera over to the Pirate's Cove.
Foxy was staring at the camera from behind the Pirate's Cove's purple curtains.
Jared switched the camera over to the show stage again and saw Freddy staring directly into the camera. Jared looked back down at the power bar and saw that the power had drained an entire 3% since he last looked at it. Suddenly, he was pushed forward and he fell to his knees on the floor. Jared watched in horror as Bonnie had torn a hole in the door with his hands, and was continuing to destroy it in his attempt to get inside the office. Jared scrambled underneath the desk.
He heard Chica scratching at the window, making raspy groaning noises. Jared grabbed his phone and tried to call Mr. Fazz.
No signal.
In a fit of rage, Jared threw his phone against the wall. He looked back at his tablet, and switched it over to see if Chica was still waiting at the door. She was no longer there, but he realized that he had left the light on in that hallway. It was burning through the power supply, he had only 7% left. He turned off the tablet, tore the fan's plug out of the wall, and waited in silence. He wasn't going to risk leaving his hiding spot to turn off the light.
He wondered if he was being silly about the whole thing, and the animatronics really were harmless.
…
No.
This went much deeper than that.
Bonnie finally successfully tore open a hole big enough for him to walk through, but didn't get inside immediately. Instead, he stared inside, in silence, as though waiting for something.
After a few minutes, Jared decided to turn on the tablet for a moment to check the time and power supply. 5:16 AM. He had been at this for just over 45 minutes.
He had 1% left.
Jared jumped up to turn off the lights and try to escape, but the entire building turned dark on him. He felt around, looking for the doorknob, but then heard footsteps. Thinking Bonnie was advancing on him, he began kicking blindly at the air behind him, before it started.
He heard an extremely familiar tune that used to play at Freddy's years before. Jared slowly turned around and watched as Freddy's lit up face blinked in and out of the dark. Jared stepped back and looked into the eyes of his favorite character, the animatronic that had comforted him when he was younger, an animatronic that had spoken with he and his friends as children, an animatronic that was going to continue singing songs and making jokes tomorrow, to unknowing children.
The tune cut off.
...
The remains of Jared Mudd were found stuffed into a Freddy Fazbear suit in the backstage an hour later by the cleaning staff.
A/N: Hey all! I'm not used to this website and I'm not sure I entirely understand how it works, so if I've done something incorrectly here, please let me know if possible. The rest of this story, if I decide to continue, will probably be little bits and pieces to my own version of the Five Nights at Freddy's story. It won't be an exact retelling of the official story, and many things will be changed. I've been thinking this up for years now, so I'm excited to continue working on it.
