The sudden absence of Eli slammed into her ten minutes after he was gone.
Chloe felt helpless and abandoned all of a sudden. She couldn't run, she couldn't fight and she had no idea where she was.
Maybe they'd won, maybe everything was going to be okay.
Maybe they'd lost, maybe her friends were dead and Matt would never smile at her again or breathe softly, wrapped around her in bed.
Eli had been her last beacon of light. He was gone, maybe dead too by now. No way out.
Chloe let the silence embrace her and take her away.
