"Good morning and welcome my students. I am Chancellor Shepard, Headmaster here, and you-,"
Yuri tuned out the bald chancellor on the monitor. He could tell this was going to be a long and undoubtedly pointless speech. Yuri stood amongst various other students in a classroom. On the wall was a large monitor where a bald man in a maroon jacket, continued to blather on about Duel Academy. Well not the real Duel Academy.
This was merely a poor imitation of the actual Academy, where the Professor reigned supreme and Yuri was the top duelist. Here though...Yuri looked down at disgust at the red jacket that had replaced his usual purple one. He was the best student at the Academy. He should be an Obelisk Blue damnit! Not some, Slifer low ranked, trash. He wasn't even allowed to wear his cape. Not that he could find it, mind you.
A lot of things had changed for the fusion summoner. It all had felt so sudden. He was adapting though. Yuri was a survivor and survivors adapted to their situations. So, there he was, standing amongst students in an unknown dimension with no way of getting home. How did this happen you might ask? Well it started a few days ago….
FLASHBACK
The city of Domino bustled with activity. People were up and at it, going about their daily routines. Duelists dueled all over, drawing crowds to see the two opponents go at it. All the meanwhile a purple haired boy was laid face down in an alleyway.
Yuri groaned, as he woke up from his nap on the floor. He blearily cracked open his eyes, only see to the gray of the concrete. His danger sense went into overdrive and he was on his feet in an instance, glancing around, ready for anything.
He was alone. That was good. Yuri's hand went to run through his hair, only for it to collide with something that had Yuri hiss in pain. He tentatively felt around the back of his head and found a rather large bump. He had been knocked out. Had he been robbed?
He checked his person to make sure everything was there. He was surprised to look down and see himself in clothes that weren't his uniform. He was dressed in a purple button down with dark blue slacks and a pair of gray boots. His duel disk was still attached to his arm, with the familiar shield design of the Academy.
Inside the disk was his deck. A quick scan of it, revealed all of his cards were still there, including Starving Venom Fusion Dragon. Despite the situation, that gave Yuri some ease. If his dragon had been taken, he didn't know what he would do.
Yuri sat against the cold wall of the alley and took a moment to collect his thoughts. Clearly, he had been attacked. His clothes had been changed, but everything of value was still on his person. So, what had been stolen?
Taking a longer look around the alley, Yuri spotted a purple messenger bag with an elegant 'Y' written on it, tucked not too far from where he had been laying. He retrieved the bag, but paused before opening it.
A dark alleyway was not really the best place to be inspecting the bag. He was confident in his ability to handle any foe that came his way, but right now he would rather not take the risk. With that, Yuri strung the bag over his shoulder and exited the alley.
Taking a step out of the darkness, Yuri found himself in a large city of sorts. It wasn't like any other city he had seen before. It was a new sight for him, but also felt somewhat familiar. Strange.
"Hmmm," Yuri tapped his chin in thought. This wasn't the Fusion Dimension, it definitely wasn't the Xyz, there are not enough motorcycles for it to be the Synchro Dimension, and it doesn't look like Standard either. That was actually a very big problem.
Yuri had traveled between every dimension at some point in his mission to retrieve the bracelet girls. Each one had there tells to indicate which dimension you were in. This city though had nothing in it that stood out to him. It looked like an average metropolis.
He needed to gather some information then. It wouldn't do for him to return back to the Professor with nothing on this new dimension. Yuri's eyes scanned the streets until they landed on a newspaper stand. Perfect.
Yuri the stand, with a polite smile on his face. A man sat behind the counter, reading a magazine and looking as if he would rather be anywhere, but there.
He stood in front of the stand, but the man ignored his presence. Yuri's eyebrow twitched, but he kept his cool. He cleared his throat to get the man's attention. He turned to Yuri and gave him a dirty look.
"What do you want pipsqueak?" The man's voice was rough, as if he smoked 20 cigarettes a day.
"Hello, I'm new around here. Might you be able to tell me what city I'm in currently?" Yuri spoke with kindness. He put on his most charming smile for added effect.
He glared at Yuri, like he was gum on the bottom of his shoe. "Domino City brat, now get lost. I'm trying to run a business here," The vendor went back to his magazine, waving Yuri off.
Yuri's fake smile dropped, and his fist clenched at the vendors rudeness. He held back the urge to card the man. That would just cause more problems than needed. Instead he nicked a newspaper for the man's attitude. The vendor was to engrossed in whatever he was reading to notice.
Domino city ay? New Domino city was in the Synchro Dimension, but this was just Domino City. As far as he knew, there was no other Domino City in any dimension. So, where was he? Yuri hummed to himself. How frustrating.
Yuri stalked off and found a nice park to rest at. He collapsed on an empty bench and set aside his stolen paper. He removed the bag from his shoulder and opened it up.
The contents were actually quite surprising to Yuri. Inside was a change of clothes, a purple toothbrush, some emergency cash, and a note. Yuri pocketed the cash, before grabbing the note.
Yuri,
Sorry about this. It was kind of an accident. We can't really explain things right now, but if you want answers, then report to the Kaiba Dome.
-Y^3
Yuri wasn't sure who this Y^3 person was, but he would make sure to inflict pain upon them when he found them. Was this some kind of practical joke? Knock him out and change his clothes, then lead him on some wild goose chase? Well Yuri wasn't going to play this game. He was going home.
He activated his duel disk and began scanning through the features. As he went, Yuri felt slightly more panicked. The Interdimensional Travel feature was missing. Same with the Human Capture function. All that's left were the regular standard features of the duel disk.
Ok, no need to panic. He didn't even need his duel disk to travel through dimensions anyways. He had Starving Venom for that. Yuri reached into his deck and drew out his signature dragon Starving Venom Fusion Dragon.
"Alright, take me home," Yuri spoke to it.
….
"Please, take me home," Yuri repeated.
Still nothing.
"Take me home dammit!" Yuri snapped at the card.
It didn't respond. Yuri stared at his dragon in disbelief. Was it ignoring him? He could feel the spirit of the card through their bond. It's not like it was gone all of a sudden. It just wasn't talking back to him. What was going on here?!
Yuri looked up to see several people giving him strange looks. It was then he realized he had been yelling at his card in the middle of an active park. He must look like a loon. Yuri's cheeks turned red in embarrassment.
He shook it off. He had bigger problems here. Yuri was stranded. Despite the odd and somewhat bleak situation, Yuri was confident that backup would come for him. He was to huge of a resource to lose, between his skills and abilities.
He would have to wait longer than usual though. Normally, depending on the mission, Academy students had around four days to wait, if they didn't respond back to the Academy by a certain time. Then a scouting team would be sent out to retrieve them.
Yuri didn't have that luxury though. He was the top skilled duelist at the Academy with a longstanding mission. Unless the Professor called him directly to report back, he was allowed to roam as much as he wanted.
Yuri silently cursed to himself, as he rose from the bench. He could already hear the people at the Academy now. "Did you hear, Yuri got stuck in another dimension and had to be rescued!" "Awww, I thought he was the top duelist. I guess not!" Yuri's face twisted into a scowl. Bastards. All of them.
"Hey heads up!"
Yuri's thoughts were cut off, as another teen collided with him. Yuri was sent sprawling. Dazed, he rose from the ground to see his "attacker". It was another boy, seemingly his age, with brown hair, a black jacket, and a archaic looking duel disk on his arm.
Seriously, that looked like the one of the first duel disks ever made.
"Ah second time today! I really need to watch where I'm going," The brown-haired boy chided himself. He then noticed Yuri.
"Sorry about that! I'm kind of in a rush," the boy sheepishly explained.
Yuri's eye twitched. He wished he still had the ability to card this kid where he stood. Maybe it was because he ran into him or maybe it was just the stress of everything that had happened today. He calmed himself though. He needed to blend in until forces were sent to retrieve him.
"That's alright," Yuri smiled. "My names Yuri, what is yours?"
"Jaden, Jaden Yuki!" Jaden popped off the ground. "The next king of games at your service!"
That was amusing. King of Games? He believed he heard that title back in the Synchro Dimension.
"A pleasure. What were you in a rush for, if I might ask," Yuri questioned.
"My entrance exam into Duel Academy! Speaking of which, got to run!" Jaden took off. "See you around Yuri!"
Yuri blinked, as he stared at where Jaden had run off to. Duel Academy?
XXXXXXXX
Yuri wasn't one to brag (ok he totally was), but he held the top records for fitness, as well as dueling, at the Academy, so it was child's play to catch up with Jaden, without being seen. When he saw where the boy was headed, Yuri simply ran ahead of him. He wanted more information on this new Academy. Could it be a possible rival for his own?
Yuri found himself in front of a large stadium with the words Kaiba Dome printed on it. This must be where the note wanted him to go. If it had a connection with the Academy, then he might be able to get home from here. He looked around for help and saw two young women in yellow academy uniforms, along with a single man in a suit, sitting at a table in front of the entrance.
"Excuse me," Yuri approached them. "If I may be so kind to ask-,"
"You were almost late," the man interrupted.
Yuri blinked, his facade broken. "What?" He asked in genuine confusion.
"You," the man pointed at him. "Were almost late for your exam. They're almost done in there,"
"I believe you're mistaken. I'm not signed up for any exam-," Yuri tried to protest, but the man silenced him.
He held a transcript up to Yuri's face. It had a picture of Yuri on it with his name, birthdate, age, and a lot more information on it, that made Yuri pale. How did they get all of this?
"Your Yuri Sakaki. This is your application. Your test is in there. Now get going," The man spoke, as if he was talking to a child.
"Listen here you ingrate-," Yuri's face gained a scary look, but the man ignored him in favor of shoving him into the building.
XXXXXXX
Yuri walked down the hallway that lead to the arena where he would duel. Things weren't adding up today. He was in a new dimension, Starving Venom wasn't responding to him, and now somehow this Duel Academy had acquired information on him. This had to be a joke.
Sakaki. Yuri hissed at the name. His Standard counterpart last name. Why was his last name on that sheet!
This all had to be some sort of plan made by Yuya. He wasn't sure how that buffoon came up with anything, but it just had to be! Y^3? It was probably some code name he had been given. He needed answers. He needed revenge. He needed-
"Yuri Sakaki, please report to the field!" the announcer's voice boomed over the intercom.
He need to complete this test, so he can get more information on this new academy. If he could infiltrate them, then he could find out how they received so much information on him. The first step towards that was winning this duel.
As he entered the arena, he was assaulted by the lights of the stadium. Various students in jackets, resembling the Slifer Red, Obelisk Blue, and Ra Yellow of the Academy sat in the stands or stood in the rafters above. Examinee's sat amongst themselves, most likely observing the competition.
Yuri took his place on the field across from a proctor.
"I'll be your proctor today Mr. Sakaki," the man bowed.
Yuri inwardly sighed. He hated having to act all sweet, but you caught more flies with honey than vinegar. The key to infiltration was making allies and to that he needed to be liked. He put on his innocent face and bowed back.
"It's a pleasure," Yuri said. He activated his duel disk, ready to start.
The Proctor seemed surprised by his disk. "I've never seen a duel disk like that," He said. "Where did you get it?"
Yuri looked down at the glowing purple sword in confusion. He looked back to his Proctor and saw he had a duel disk just like Jaden's. Did they not have Solid Vision here? They had to use those dinosaurs? Yuri almost felt bad for them. They looked incredibly clunky to lug around.
Yuri thought fast. "It's an experimental model," He lied easily.
The Proctor seemed to accept that. What a fool.
"Let's Duel," they said in union.
Proctor: 4000 LP
Yuri: 4000 LP
"Since I'm in charge here, I'll go first," The Proctor stated. He looked over his hand with a keen eye.
"I'll summon my Alligator's Sword in attack mode!" he declared. With it, a large alligator dressed in armor appeared on the field.
Alligator's Sword lvl 4 Earth (ATK/DEF: 1500/1200) Reptile
"I'll end my turn with a face down. Your move kid,"
Yuri looked over at his opponent's field in curiousity. He resisted the urge to comment on the move. Unless that was some powerful trap card, it wasn't really too great. If this was how entrance exams for this academy worked, then taking them over would be easy.
"My turn," Yuri drew his card. He smiled with glee, as he looked over his hand. He was like a child trying to pick out a toy at the store. He just had too many amazing options to choose.
"Oh!" He said joyfully. "I got the perfect move! I'll start by summoning Predaplant Ophyrs Scorpio in attack mode!" A cross between a scorpion and a plant appeared on Yuri's side.
Predaplant Ophyrs Scorpio lvl 3 Dark (ATK/DEF: 1200/800) Plant
"When it's brought out, I can discard one monster and then special summon a new Predaplant from my deck. I'll choose Predaplant Darlingtonia Cobra," Yuri explained. He discarded one card and brought forth his plant snake.
Predaplant Darlingtonia Cobra lvl 3 Dark (ATK/DEF: 1000/1500) Plant
"That's when my Cobra's effect activates,"
The Proctor slumped where he stood. "Another effect?" He cried.
Yuri nodded excitedly. "Don't worry, this is where things get good. Cobra lets me add one fusion card to my hand and I choose Polymerization. Now with it, I'm going to fuse my two Predaplants together!"
"Two beautiful flowers with a deadly alluring fragrance!" Yuri recited, as the two plants disappeared in a swirling vortex. "Join together and create a new terror from the hell that lies beneath your petals!"
Yuri clapped his hands together.
"Fusion Summon!"
"Come forth! Parasitic plant with venomous teeth, level 7, Predaplant Chimerafflesia!" Yuri declared. From the fusion vortex came a giant plant. It had bright red petals and two large venus fly trap like hands.
Predaplant Chimerafflesia lvl 7 Dark (ATK/DEF: 2500/2000) Plant
The Proctor gulped at the fusion monster before him. He didn't have a fusion in his deck that could compare to that monster. How did a kid get a powerhouse like that?
"Things aren't done just yet!" Yuri declared. "I'm using the equip spell Predapruning! This spell card allows me to bring one Predaplant monster from graveyard to the field and it gets to stay, as long as this card is equipped to it!"
The Proctor sighed in relief. "Between your fusion and the monsters in your graveyard, you still don't have enough attack points to take me out this turn!" He smirked.
Yuri's smile darkened. "Oh, but I do. I summon Predaplant Spinodionaea!" Next to the giant flower, a Spinosaurus themed plant roared, as it was brought back.
Predaplant Spinodionaea lvl 4 Dark (ATK/DEF: 1800/0) Plant
The Proctor paled. "W-when did you get that in your graveyard?!" He stuttered, pointing a shaking finger at it.
Yuri sighed, slouching in defeat. "You're not very bright, are you? I sent him to the graveyard when I used my Scorpio's effect,"
He stood up straighter. Time to end this pointless duel. "I attack your Alligator's Sword with my Chimerafflesia," It's venus fly trap like hands raced towards the alligator, teeth dripping with venom. "I'll activate its effect. Until the end of this turn your Alligator loses 1000 attack points and my plant gains it!"
Chimerafflesia roared, as its strength increased, while Alligator's Sword collapsed to the ground, as its points were drained.
Alligator's Sword (1500/1200) → (500/1200)
Chimerafflesia (2500/2000) → (3500/2000)
Alligator's Sword was crushed and consumed by Chimerafflesia's mouth. The Proctor raised a hand to block the resounding explosion that happened because of it.
Proctor: 4000 - 3000 = 1000 LP
"And now we end this with Spinodionaea!" The Proctor screamed in terror, as the dinosaur lept at him.
Proctor: 1000 - 1800 = 0 LP
Yuri Win's.
The cards faded, as the duel was called in Yuri's favor.
"Nice match!" Yuri grinned. "It was a blast!"
The Proctor panted, as he stood up from the ground. "Y-you pass,"
"Of course," Yuri said. He was taken off guard by the sound of applause. He looked up to see the people in the stands cheering after his victory.
"That was so cool!" "His monsters were super scary, but really strong!" "I've never seen anyone take someone out like that, in just one turn!" "That chant sent chills down my spine! It was like watching a show!"
Yuri was unfamiliar with this kind of attention. He usually ended his duels with stunned silences and fear. No one at the Academy would dare clap for him. They were too intimidated. This though...Yuri found himself feeling a bit lighter after hearing the people around him. Dare he say it, he felt almost happy.
Before a smile could spread on his face though, he crushed the feeling and walked off the field. He was the best. He didn't need people to validate that for him. Yuri exited the arena and made his way up to the stands. He could see the exit to the stadium, but an arm wrapping around his shoulders, stopped him.
"Yuri! You didn't tell me you were applying for Duel Academy to!" a familiar voice assaulted his ears.
Yuri looked to see Jaden had stopped him. Next to him was a studious looking teen along with a short blue haired boy as well.
He sighed in annoyance, before putting the facade back up. "I didn't know myself until I got here. I thought it would be interesting to watch the duels, but turns out someone had sent in my application,"
"That's unusual," the studious teen raised an eyebrow at him. Yuri mimicked it playfully.
"Weird, but that was a sweet duel! I can't believe you knocked out that proctor in one turn!" Jaden exclaimed.
Yuri waved off the praise. "It wasn't that hard. I just got the right cards at the right time," Also he was the best. No doubt about that.
"I better get down there for my duel. You should chill with Syrus and Bastion here and see me win this thing!" Jaden said. "Hey, maybe I'll take them down in one turn,"
"We can only hope," Yuri said.
Jaden leapt from his seat and made his way down to the field. Yuri internally debated if it was worth sitting here and watching him duel. He didn't seem to skilled. He was almost late to this exam and hyperactive attitude lacks any professionalism whatsoever. Yuri concluded he might as well watch. He had time to kill after all.
He looked to the other two, as he took a seat. "Yuri," He nodded to them.
"Nice to meet you. I'm Syrus," Syrus said, slightly nervous.
"Bastion," Bastion nodded back.
"So, Yuri," Syrus began. "How do you know Jaden?"
"He ran into me on the way here," Yuri stated. "I didn't expect to run into him again after that, but here we are,"
Bastion eyed Yuri carefully. "Interesting. And you say you didn't apply to Duel Academy yourself?"
Yuri met Bastion's gaze. "Not to my knowledge," He says carefully.
"Then you didn't take the written exam?"
Yuri blinked. "Written exam?" He asked.
Bastion held up two fingers. "Duel Academy requires two tests for entry, a written exam and a practical. If you haven't taken the written it is unlikely you will be allowed to enter,"
Syrus seemed more concerned than Yuri over that news. "I'm sure it will be fine," Yuri shrugged, leaning back in his seat.
"But Yuri, if you didn't do the written, then you won't get into Duel Academy," Syrus panicked.
Yuri held up a hand to stop the anxiety ridden boy. "Everything will work out fine. I'm positive," He wasn't, but he doubted they would have let him take the practical exam if he didn't do the written. He didn't remember taking some pointless written exam to enter this school, but he would dwell on that later. For now, Jaden was up and versing some kind of girl, guy, clown, thing.
FLASHBACK END
Yuri trudged to his assigned dorm along with his "friends". It was a loose term and one he only used to keep his nice charade. He needed to make connections to gather more information about this Duel Academy and the subsequent dimension around it.
"Aren't you guys excited?" Jaden asked, walking backwards with his hands behind his head. "This is our first day at Duel Academy!"
"Yeah, real excited," Syrus mumbled.
"I'm curious to see how it will go," Yuri said. He was honestly curious how this Duel Academy trained its students. It clearly wasn't as militaristic as his, if the Chancellor is any indication.
"Come on, be more pumped! I can't wait till I get to duel some people. I'm ready to get my game on," Yuri looked at the excited Slipher with amusement.
He had witnessed the duel between Crowler and Jaden, and Jaden had surprised him. He had been ready to write him off as a no talent duelist, but he turned out to be better than expected. He wasn't on Yuri's level by any means, but he was better than the average duelist.
"Look there it is!" Jaden darted passed Syrus and Yuri, over to their new dorm. The remaining two Slifer's stopped dead in their tracks, as they stared over at their new accommodations.
"It's a hobble," Yuri stared at the dorm with unblinking eyes.
"It's a shack," Syrus said. They shared a look of understanding one another before following after Jaden.
The dorm itself wasn't too bad, but compared to the well-kept buildings of the Ra Yellows and Obelisk Blues, this was the equivalent of an outhouse. This is why Yuri should be in Obelisk Blue. Hell, he'd take Ra Yellow at this point.
"Over here Sy! I found our room," Jaden waved.
"This is going to be along year," Syrus slumped.
"At least it won't be boring," Yuri offered offhandedly. Jaden didn't seem to be the type to avoid danger. Syrus could only moan in exhaustion.
Yuri moved past the two bunkmates and looked for his room. It was only a few doors down from his allies, which he supposed was nice. Not close enough to hear them babble like monkey's, but close enough if he needed to find them.
He opened the door, only to see a room already decorated. It looked homey, with small pictures on the walls of family and friends. Of the two bunkbeds, the top one was clothed in a bright happy blanket with smiling faces all over it.
Yuri found a couple purple bags pushed against the wall. His brow scrunched in confusion. They all had his name printed on them. These were his? This was getting creepy even for him.
He heard the door open and turned, expecting Jaden and Syrus to be there. Instead he froze on the spot, for at his door weren't his "friends". It was Yuya Sakaki, also wearing a Slifer Red jacket.
Yuya grinned at him. "Good to see you little brother. I guess we'll be roommates,"
Yuya grin transformed into a pained smile, as Yuri's fist imbedded itself into his stomach.
Ohhh revenge. It felt so sweet.
This will probably be the shortest chapter I write. I just had to end it here, for the sheer cliffhanger. I hope this story is of some interest. I use the Japanese names for the Arc V characters and the English for the Gx, so I hope it's not to confusion.
Fun fact, I actually do the duels myself. I use YGOPRO and make each sides deck and then face the AI. The only reason Yuri's duel is a one turn kill was because I actually had a one turn kill. I do edit them somewhat for entertainment purposes though, but overall there mostly the same.
