I don't own Naruto / Boruto
Prologue
Out where the sky is gray and the pavement is slick and dark, Boruto carefully walked towards the center of the city. He held on to his black umbrella and pulled his dark blue coat around himself tighter. He exhaled and watched his breath turn into white smoke. It was early February, and far too cold for his liking. Adding in the rain was an atrocity. But even if he did not fancy the weather, he trudged on until a giant color wheel came to view.
He swallowed as he waited for the pedestrian sign to switch from STOP to GO. Boruto kept stealing glances at the color wheel, hoping he might find what he was looking for. As he waited, a cold wind blew, and he gritted his teeth.
"Darling, do you think I'll finally get to see it?" A girl behind Boruto asked excitedly. He turned to sneak a look, she was standing under a huge umbrella with a man.
"We can go to the color wheel to check," he smiled politely before adding, "Do you remember the color's name?"
"Pantone three-five-nine-five-C," She replied enthusiastically, to which the man smiled.
Boruto faced forward yet again and then turned his gaze to the color wheel. The rain was starting to subside, but the sky didn't show any signs of quitting.
The sign changed from STOP to GO, and Boruto crossed the street. With every step he took, the color wheel got bigger and bigger, making his heart feel heavier. He swallowed when he saw a girl with a bright red umbrella standing a good distance away, looking up at the giant wheel.
"Sarada," he breathed.
He knew she would be here.
Boruto approached and stopped right next to her, and they stood in silence. Both of them looking at the wheel. It showed every single possible color combination. His blue eyes scanned the entire wheel, immediately drawn to the warm, red tones first and then moving to the cold tones along the sphere. There was no gray dot in sight. His lips pressed to a fine line.
"Doesn't it bother you, Boruto?" Her voice came out even, but tired. When his only response was to look at her, she continued, "Doesn't it bother you that you can see all the colors?"
He studied her face, unreadable, flawless. Her red glasses sat on the bridge of her nose, and her long, dark hair flowed down to the middle of her back. She never tore her gaze away from the wheel. "They say that when you meet your soulmate and look at this wheel, that one grey speck will disappear and the wheel will be complete. How does it feel to know that there was never a time you've seen that gray speck?"
Boruto looked back at the wheel and shrugged. "I dunno, I guess I got used to it, but hey," he looked at her and then teased cheekily, "I can ask you the same thing."
Sarada finally looked away from the wheel and turned to look right into his ocean blue eyes. Her face was impassive, but then, slowly, her lips quirked upwards before she responded, "Perhaps you could."
A/N:
This is a soulmate AU that will tackle how couples in the Naruto/Boruto verse have come to see color but will mostly focus on how BoruSara can see all the colors in the wheel, despite not knowing who their soulmates are. Will somewhat crossover to my Designer AU as well. :)
Let me know what you think of this prologue, which couples you want to see, and how you think they might come to see color.
Happy Easter, darling!
