When he was a first year he left Lily Evans a Valentine. And when he was a second year. And a third year. And a fourth. And fifth and sixth. But he never signed them.
When he was a seventh year Lily was going out with James, so he didn't give her a Valentine.
Then Lily asked Remus why he hadn't made her one. She had saved them all, she told him.
So he made her one that year. And the next. And the next. And the next. She never said anything, but he knew she cherished them.
Even after she died Remus kept making Lily Valentines, adding them to her collection.
This year he put it on the desk where Lily had sat their first year in Defense Against the Dark Arts. That was where he had put the first Valentine; that was where he put the last one.
