In afghanistan bombs were flying, blasts could be heard. Screaming. Shouting. The air was filled with dirt, sweat, blood, tears. Pain. Shouts were exclaiming about the injured being taken back to safety and flown home if they were too injured to continue in the war. Only 16 of the 48 injured could stay to continue fighting. Those who stayed fought like they hadn't before, but it wasnt enough. Their troop was now so small there was nothing they could do except retreat and wait for reinforcements. as they were waiting for reinforcements the enemy line was resting and aproaching faster as all the british could do was hid in hope that they would survive another day. It was one of the worst times ever for the soldiors in the war, waiting and not being able to fight just yet, leaving the enemy to take over the land.

Back in London, those who returned were taken straight into hospital so they could be healed and hopefully not loose any limbs. Soldiers had to attend physio and see a psychiatrist so they could physically and mentally recover from what had happened during the time they were away from home, they were told to continue a normal life like the one they had before they went out to serve in afghanistan, as though nothing had happened, as though their friends weren't dieing, as though they themselves weren't injured and grieving those they'd loved, their family. For some this was achievable. For most they struggled through everyday life pretending they were fine, lying to everyone about exactly how they felt. For one his life had to change entirely.

Sherlock Holmes wandered down the street, his brain in his mind palace as usual, just aware of the world enough to be able to walk where he wanted without walking into anything for he knew exactly where he was, where he was going, short cuts to the place he needed to be and in fact the entire map of London. Considering Sherlock normally paid attention to everything he was completely oblivious to one man in particular who was paying a strange amount of attention to him. For this man was never normally there, his life had changed, no one completely knew him anymore, he had changed in more ways than one would first think and as Sherlock was being oblivious to the changing world around him, this new member to baker street was allowed to stare for the time being...
