The first day of school
by Cosette Valjean
I close my eyes and open the door
I see people I never have before
Close my eyes and I count to ten
Hope the day's over when I open them
I want the things that I had before
Like my old school's teachers and those old three floors
I wish I could count to ten
Take me back to middle school again
Hope my schedule won't be too weird
And I'll figure out where I have to be
I hear the seniors and the juniors too
Hear more "freshman" comments than I ever wanted to
I forgot which locker's mine
I can't get to class on time
I don't believe seniors when they say
"Everything will be wonderful someday"
Schedules mean everything when you're little
And the school's so big
I just don't understand how
They can just push me and walk right by
Don't tell me everything is wonderful now
