The sun was just about creeping through the slit between the curtains when
Marissa woke. To her left she could hear Ryan's soft breathing and outside
were the sounds of Seth and Summer playing in the pool. Life was good and
Marissa was going to take full advantage of it. As she got up to get
dressed and ready for the day ahead of her, Ryan stirred in the bed.
"What time is it?" asked a groggy Ryan.
Grasping for her watch Marissa replied "10:45 time to get up."
"It's to early for that come back to bed." Said Ryan as he pulled Marissa
closer.
Running her hands through she motioned to the door. "I have to go I
promised dad I'd have breakfast with him, sorry."
As they both go up and got dressed there came a knock at the pool house
door. "Knock, knock I hope there are no naked people in there!" it was Seth
looking to see if the guys wanted breakfast. Both he and summer were
soaking wet but didn't see to give a damn. The hot late summer sun would
soon cool them off. Marissa declined and headed in the direction of her
fathers. Ryan chased after her saying on his way that he would join them
later. Ryan had started to notice that Marissa was becoming more and more
detached from the others of late and even from him. He suspected something
was up but didn't want to start another fight. As he slowly jogged toward
her as she neared the end of the driveway Marissa turned to face him.
"If it's ok I'd like to walk home on my own, I need to think for a bit."
"Is it something I say? You seemed fine a minuet ago."
"It's not you I just want some time alone is that to much to ask for?"
Marissa knew how this was going to end. Of late she hadn't been feeling
herself and didn't feel the need to be very sociable. Once again she felt a
sudden wave of sickness creep over her. This was the third morning in a
row.
"What's wrong with you? You've been acting weird for a while now and I'm
starting to get sick of it" damit, Ryan thought, that wasn't the way it was
meant to come out.
"Well if your so sick of me then why do you even bother." And with that
Marissa stormed off.
"Let her go dude." Said Seth placing a friendly hand on Ryan's shoulder.
"I just don't know what's wrong with her, she's not really talking to me
anymore." Ryan exclaimed as they walked slowly back to the house. The
prospect of eating pancakes with now sickening Seth and Summer did nothing
to raise his sprits.
Marissa had spent most of the day lying in a mess on her bed crying her eyes out and desperately trying to ignore Ryan's attempts at an apology. Even Jimmy's attempts to cheer her up were all in vain. By the time Marissa looked at her clock it was 8:30. "I'm sick of lying her feeling sorry for myself, I'm going out to have some fun." She thought as she got off her bed and headed into the bathroom. Within half an hour she was on the dance floor forgetting all her problems. Luke came over and asked her if he could buy her a drink. "Surprised to see you here alone. Where's Ryan?" "Can't I just have some fun by myself every now and then or is that a crime." As the music got faster and the dance floor filled up Marissa's world started to spin and become a blur. Everything was moving so fast and she was starting to lose control.
The next morning Marissa woke-up with the mother of all hangovers. Her head was pounding and once again she came over all sick. Suddenly she realised that she was not in her own bed nor was she in Ryan's bed. She didn't seem to be wearing clothes either. This was starting to seem like her worse nightmare until she found out how was in the bed beside her. Lying there next to her was Luke. "How could I let this happen? Ryan is going to kill me." Was all she could think as she desperately tried to gather her clothes. This was greatly impeded by the fact that if felt like her head was about to explode. She left just in time to see Luke turn in the bed and call out her name. She had to get out of there as soon as possible. When she arrived back at here dads Ryan was waiting. He sat on the couch; flowers in one had and with a sorry look on his face. The minuet he saw her he jumped off the couch. "Before you say anything I just want you to know that what I said yesterday was way outta line and that I understand that you might still be angry but that I'm just worried about you...." Ryan didn't get to finish as Marissa ran crying into his arms. She didn't have the heart to tell him just what had happened, as she knew it would mean losing him. It wasn't for some time that Marissa found out she was pregnant and that she now faced losing him forever.
