Ever since the pastel morning sunlight stretched into the Candy Kingdom, Fionna had been meandering thoughtfully around the delicious city streets. The sun was casting a warm light on the kingdom and its inhabitants from directly above their heads by the time Cake returned from her visit with Lord Monochrome. Judging only from the concentrated stare that the human girl wore on her face, Cake decided that Fionna had a question festering in her curiosity.
"What's up, girl?" Cake asked as she shrunk down to sit on her friend's shoulder.
"Cake, why do people lock their doors and then not answer when you know they're in there?" Fionna asked.
"Sometimes people need privacy, Fi."
"Yeah, but they didn't even ask me to go away! They just didn't say anything!" Fionna threw her hands out to the sides for emphasis.
"Maybe you should tell me exactly what the glob happened so I might actually know why that is." Cake suggested, stretching off of Fionna's shoulder and growing to normal size in front of her.
"Well," Fionna began, "I went into the castle first thing this morning to get Gumball because we were supposed to go for a walk in the gardens, but when I walked down the hall to his bedroom there was a crowd of candy people marching behind Cinnamon Bun. I asked her what the glob she was doing, but she just kept chanting 'Aaa! Aaa! The land of Aaa!' over and over again. It sounded like Gumball was chanting it too in his room, so I knocked on the door to see if he was going to spend all day celebrating Aaa or if he was going to walk with me. He completely ignored me, but I remembered what you said about kicking down doors so I left him alone."
"Hmm..." Cake rubbed her chin, "Was Gumball...alone in his room?"
"Nu uh, it sounded like Marshall Lee was in there too! I don't know why everyone was so patriotic today..."
Cake's tail frizzed up. "Oooh, girl, you might not want to mention any of this to Gumball or Marshall later."
Fionna looked curiously at her feline companion, "Why not?"
"You'll find out when you're older, honey." Cake stuttered before changing the subject, "Let's go fight some evil monsters!"
{A big thank you to the most fabulous kumquat I call my friend for inspiring this.}
