Daryl fired his crossbow. The quarrel struck a walker in the head. It dropped to the ground, shaft protruding from its head. Rick fired his pistol, and a walker fell. They heard crying.
"In there!"
Shane fired his shotgun, dropping a walker. They ran into the farmhouse. They listened for the sobbing again. Rick opened a closet door. Sophia sat there. She rocked as she sobbed.
"Sophia?"
She looked up, and smiled when she saw Rick.
Carl turned a page in his book.
"Hey, Carl. Rick's back," Andrea said.
Carl put down his book and ran outside. He was disappointed when at first he didn't see Sophia, but then, Rick stepped aside, and Sophia went running to Carol. He smiled. Carol gasped, and hugged Sophia tight. There were tears in Carol's eyes as she patted Sophia's back.
"Are you okay, Sophia?"
Sophia quietly nodded. She caught sight of Carl.
"Let me look at you."
Carol held Sophia at arm's length, scanning her injuries.
"Let's get you something to eat, Soph."
"Okay, but I'd like to talk to Carl first."
"Okay, Sophia."
Sophia ran up to Carl.
"It's nice to see you again, Carl," she said.
There were tears in Carl's eyes.
"I've missed you, Sophia. I was so worried. I wanted to help look for you, but dad wouldn't let me. He said it was too dangerous."
"I know you would have if you could, Carl."
She smiled at him.
I think they might be out of character, but I'm not sure. Anyway, I enjoyed writing that chapter. Carl and Sophia fluff.
