Prologue

The forest was completely silent. Nothing moved. The trees were still. The wind wasn't blowing. Everything was deathly quiet. The moon illuminated the forest. It was a beautiful sight. The trees surrounded a small cove where the moon shined on the water. It was a perfect night.

Then something moved. It was so fast and light you couldn't tell what caused it. But the trees felt it. The fet the uneasiness in the step. For the beings in this woods never made sound. They whispered to each other in a language that sounded like leaves rustling to anyone unaccustomed to the area. But anyone could soon recognize that this wasnt talking. The trees were singing. The melody was so enchanted. But it was a sad song. One that spoke of true sorrow and pain. Something had changed in the trees. They had felt a light leave them.

Then their song was joined by new voices. Very different but just as sorrowful and painful. The voices soon harmonized and the melody was haunting. The new voices entered the cove. They stood silent and moved with a grace almost foreign to the common man. At their head one with silver hair and a crown of spring leaves stood cold and expressionless. In his stead six more beings similar in features and expressions to the leader came to stand by him. They stood facing the water of the cove.

The trees suddenly halted in their singing and again enveloped the forest in absolute silence. Then the leader of the new group began to sing. It was a solitary song. But it enveloped more loss and pain then anything the trees had heard before. The trees were confused. The elvenKing had come here for thousands of years. He was always laughing and full of life. What could have brought this pain upon their loving leader?

The Elvenking and his children stood at the cove until the sun rose the next dawn. Then with a new look to him left the cove quickly not making a sound barely seeming to touch the ground at all. Slowly his children began to exit the cove. They were lifeless and showed to emotion. The trees stayed silent as they left. But they stayed quiet for too long.

Something had changed in the forest. The trees once tall and proud and magnificent were changed. They had lost their light and love. They had lost their voices. They seemed to be dying. The atmosphere everywhere changed. The forest was now a darker place. Empty of its laugher and excitement and love. The once great kingdom of Mirkwood had lost its light. For Queen Anariel had died.

As for the Elvenking with his silver hair and crown of spring leaves, nothing would ever be the same. King Thranduil lost his loving demeanor. He was no longer the happy father who doted on his children. Or the calm, collected, and caring king who ruled his kingdom with love. He had become cold and lifeless.

No one could rescue him from his grief. He couldn't be reached from the depths of his sorrow. He ruled now with an iron fist. He controlled every corner of the once magnificent Mirkwood with no love. His looks alone could scare anyone who came to be in his company. He even shut himself off from his children.

They had lost the guide of the father and had to raise themselves now. They stuck together and grew closer as their father grew further and further away. They youngest child of Thranduil, only a child at the time, was affected the most. He used to be the light of his fathers life. Now even he couldn't reach him. Thranduil couldn't look at his greenleaf without being painfully reminded of Anariel. This affected the child deeper than he could see.

Legolas had lost his light. He had spent weeks trying to reach his father. But Thranduil only pushed him away. He ignored him. Legolas had lost both his parents in a matter of weeks. His siblings were always there and helped him whenever he needed it. But gradually Legolas pushed them away. He became distant from everyone. Now 3 decades after his Nana's death Legolas Thranduilion couldn't be reached anymore.
