They were inseparable
He laughed, pulling her along beside him.
"Come on let's get out of here. Two hours is enough, even for a cultured man like me.
Thank god you were here; I don't think I could have lasted in that forsaken art gallery without you."
She smiled, brushing back a loose lock of hair as she struggled to keep up.
"I wasn't that helpful."
Laughing, she added, "Your eyeballs were rolling to the back of your head."
Friday night hangouts
"Jack is so courageous," she blubbered, her face tattooed with glistening tears. "Why couldn't he and Rose have lived happily ever after?"
He looked back at her with a wrinkled brow. He paused, and then responded, "Can you pass me another piece of pizza?"
Her upper body slackened as she looked exasperatedly towards him.
He grinned, looking innocently back at her.
After school study sessions
"I don't get it!" she whisper-yelled, frustrated.
"Then we'll do it again," he replied calmly, putting a reassuring hand on hers. He punched the numbers back into the calculator.
Relaxed strolls through the park
"Do you ever wonder what will happen when we're out of school? Out of our monotonous daily schedules – hopefully – fending for ourselves?" He said, half speaking to himself.
"All the time," she replied thoughtfully, looking up at the grey overcast sky.
Until someone else came bulldozing into the picture
"Listen, I'm not going to go through that 'stay away from him or else bullshit, but let's get one thing straight. The less of you I see the better," she said pointedly, staring down at her.
It was evident what she was saying. "Stay away from him or else…"
He didn't understand
"Where'd she go?" he asked swivelling his head around anxiously.
"Don't worry," came the reply, a smooth, manicured hand coming to rest on his shoulder. "I heard her say she was leaving early for some family thing."
She didn't want to be unsupportive
"It's okay, really. Just go." The smile didn't reach her eyes.
"Are you sure? We used to always do this together." He looked at her disappointedly.
"You have Aline. Besides, it is really only a two person kind of thing."
Sometimes it feels like all is lost
"I don't know anything anymore," she whispered, staring up at her bedroom ceiling.
Maybe it is
"You coming?" questioned the raven-haired bombshell, curling a protective hand around the base of his neck.
"Yeah," he said, taking one last glance across the room...
Or maybe it isn't
"I miss you," he murmured, his voice breaking.
There was a pain-staking pause.
"I miss you too."
But what they both don't realize, is that it may be the one moment she needs him the most
"Now as far as my advice goes," said the doctor, looking purposely into her eyes, "you want to keep friends and family close. They're what's going to keep you in the best health possible and you don't want to have any regrets in the end."
She swallowed in as much oxygen as her constricted lungs would possibly allow, her gaze fixed down at her rigid, trembling fingers.
"How long do I have?"

"Can you please just talk to me? Please?"
And Clary Fray
"I said I wasn't going to be the selfish friend and I'm not going to be."
