A/N: First pairing poem for me. :) Partly inspired by Sasuke Not Uchiha, by The 8th Stone, one of my friends in real life. Thanks, Tes.

'Twas Only But a Dream

'Twas only but a dream,
For me to see you there,
Atop the crumbling ruins.
'Twas only but a dream.

Billowing clothes had flown,
You jumped down and to
Your best friend's shoulder,
And told him you'd murder.

Frozen and weak was I,
As you two stood there,
A pair of blood red eyes stared
Into his cerulean blue.

The demon in him stirred,
Threatening to break out—
But subdued by that devilish eyes,
The seal, it broke not.

The moment was short,
And so you jumped back,
Coldness replaced with arrogance,
That I thought I knew well.

You spared me not a glance,
I was pathetic, you knew,
Had always been, and, alas,
Never would change.

Electricity coursed through the air,
It was the power you'd yearned for.
A lecture, you didn't want to hear,
And so fell Yamato, and so fell Sai.

Words were meaningless,
Wasted on your ears.
Two were down, and I followed,
Watching—helpless on the ground.

And I did nothing
When your form rippled,
Tearing away to the unknown,
Leaving us once again.

As my eyes opened,
As I'd failed, once again,
To stop you—
Somehow, I knew.

It wasn't fate that'd drawn us together,
But it was destiny that drew us apart.
You, he who'd chosen a different path,
Down a different road, to a different end.

The good old days; they were no more,
As much as I hoped to differ.
Another life, another memory of the boy I loved—
'Twas only but a dream.
