Okay, thanks to awesome reviewers, I am making it a series. As you can tell, this takes place at the end of Edward and Bella's fifth grade year. Hmmm, Edward still seems a bit mature for his age, but that's just the way he is, right? Anyway, enjoy!
Edward loved to go camping, especially when it was one of those rare sunny days. His parents had been taking him camping since before he could walk. So when he heard that the entire fifth grade class from Forks Elementary would be taking an end of the year trip, he was psyched to say the least.
His best friend Bella was not so keen on the idea.
"I hate camping," Bella grumbled as the two walked to school, their backpacks filled not with schoolwork, but survival gear for the next three days.
"Oh come on Bella," Edward said, "Look at the sky! It's beautiful out today!"
Edward closed his eyes as he held his hands up to the sky and took a deep breath.
When he opened his eyes, he saw Bella smirking at him.
"What?" He asked, his brow furrowing in confusion.
Bella giggled, "You don't seem like a normal fifth grader, you're way too mature."
He shrugged as they neared the building. It was true; he was different than other fifth graders. Edward had always been the smartest kid in their class, he was always courteous to the teachers, and he did not believe that girls had cooties. Let's just say he skipped the whole "kiddie phase" altogether.
After a minute of silence Edward asked, "That's not a bad thing, is it?"
"No," Bella replied instantly, "It's just the way you are. I think that's why I like you- I mean, I like hanging out with you," she blushed, but luckily Edward was too lost in his own thoughts to notice her mixed up words.
At the end of the third day Edward was sorry to leave camp. He and Bella and all of their classmates had had so much fun. Bella even admitted at the bonfire the night before that she actually loved camp. But she was still not big on the outdoors.
Edward smiled, he was glad Bella had fun. She had always been kind of shy; he was the only person Bella really opened up to. But on this trip she changed a bit, she showed her true colors to people other than himself.
As he packed up the last of his things and looked out of the window of his cabin he saw rain coming down in buckets. Edward grimaced, so much for a totally sunny trip. Oh well, that was Forks for you.
He walked outside, nearly slipping on the wet walkway. Kids were milling around in all different directions, waiting for the bus. He looked around looking for Bella, but she was nowhere in sight. Then Angela, one of Bella's bunkmates, came running at him.
"Edward!" She called, "Bella fell right outside the bunk! The teachers think she broke her arm, she really wants to see you!"
For a split second Edward was speechless, and then he was running full tilt through the rain towards the girls' bunks.
"Bella!" He cried, finally reaching her.
He pushed past the crowd of teachers, and kneeled down in front of her. He could see through the rain that tears were staining her precious face. He reached a hand towards her and dried her eyes. She smiled, but he could see pain etched across her features.
"Edward, hey," She whispered.
"I'm here Bella, I'm here," He replied.
She nodded, but then said, "It hurts Edward, it really hurts."
"Shh, don't worry, everything is gonna be okay," He said, even though his heart was breaking, seeing her in such pain. He had to reassure her, "Everything is gonna be just fine."
Bella nodded, and smiled a tiny smile, but that was all he needed.
Everything was going to be fine.
So, good, bad? Should I write more? Review, or I will never know...
