I looked over the horizon at the rising sun, sucking in a deep breathe like the beautiful lights, glimmering reds, oranges and yellows bathed me in a new light and a new life, adding a shimmer of color to the usual browning sands below. Many people missed it, still asleep in there beds, but not me, I sat here, still as stone watching the sun rise and the promise of a new life with it. I would often come here, even as a child, under all that rage, hatred and anger, sitting like a wall looking up at the stars and wishing I could go there too, that I could be anywhere else but here. Even after my father had left his office, the forth sand shadow retiring to his chambers to get in a few hours of sleep, even then I would sit, waiting, needing to see the sun come up once again as I wondered what the day would hold. Back then it was fear, now? It was hope, even just a shred of it, peeking up at me through the slowly cracking darkness, like the twinkling stars that broke up the night sky. Looking over a village that, like me, was starting to heal day by day. Holding a promise of a new future, filled with laughter, where children could be children not weapons, where no family would ever be broken and the day... even someone like I, could be someone like him. The day I could shine as brightly as the sun, standing guard over my new village like the stars, shining light on those that needed help.

"Hey Gaara," Kankuro's voice echoes from below, causing me to turn and look down at him from the perch of our fathers old office "You coming?"

I look at his smile, a real smile, and for the first time a while find myself smiling as well.

"Of course."
