Chapter one: Secrets are upon us

(Before Jamie's death)

Jamie was sitting in the cafeteria alone at the only table that seemed even as lonely as her, and as usual reading her science book and eating lunch. When Landon Carter came over and sat next to her. Jamie didn't look up she knew who it was, but she didn't seem to care why he was sitting next to her. Landon seemed determined to talk to her even if it meant utter humiliation from his friends. He needed help, in, well just about everything. And he knew that his friends weren't going to help him out. And after his last little stunt on a ninth grader went too far, making him jump off a building and hopefully landing in a tub of ice cream, the principal gave Landon to Jamie, though of course Jamie didn't know this and even if she did she wouldn't have been on board.

"Hi…" Now clearing his throat, Landon really didn't want to ask Jamie, but if he didn't then he wouldn't graduate. "Jamie, I need your help." Landon finished almost choking on his own salvia, though he wished he had, than having to ask Jamie Sullivan for help.

Jamie looked up, but instead of a confused face, that Landon was expecting to get from her, she had a smile an almost burst out laughing smile on her face. For a second he thought she might have to compose herself to keep from laughing.

But she didn't, Jamie just smiled and said, "Landon Carter wants my help. Is this some kind of joke?"

"No, it isn't." Landon said while looking somewhere else entirely he didn't want to know if she was smirking at him or not.

"With what?" was all Jamie asked?

"Everything, math, English, science, and history, or I'm not going to graduate."

Landon still didn't face Jamie; it was like he wanted to talk to a wall or someone else. She turned his face back towards hers and to his surprise she wasn't laughing or smirking, she seemed to know that it wasn't his idea. See Landon Carter was known for making friends and then setting them up to do something complete immature and then he would dump them. It was his way of having a good time.

"Fine, let's get started. What do you wish to learn first?" Jamie said though she knew Landon better than this, Jamie knew Landon didn't want to learn any of the subjects that he mentioned, he just wanted Jamie to do the work for him, so he could turn it in, and get the grade that he doesn't really deserve. So before Landon could even mention a subject Jamie interrupted him, "Just so you know. When you get out in the real world, no one is going to do your work for you, you will either sink or swim, and if you sink you will get fired." Now letting go of his face.

Landon nodded and then said, "I guess; since you already have your science book out, let's start with that."

"Alright, then meet me at my house tonight and we will get started. Here are the directions to my house. See you tonight." Jamie gave Landon the directions to her house and he cautiously got up, making sure no one could see him with her.
