"Toph, I'm in love with you."

"Obviously," Toph said from the top of the rock wall she had bent the day before for practice. "The last time you followed someone around like a puppy-duckling was when- well, when you were in love with Katara." She spoke through chewing on sunflower seeds.

All Aang could think to respond was, "You- you know?"

"Isn't that what I said?" Toph gave him what looked like a cruel smile. "I'm blind, not mute."

He couldn't believe how insensitive his friend was being towards him and how blatant she was about the situation. He could feel himself getting angrier by the second. "I just shared an intimate part of myself and all you feel like you should say is that you already knew?"

She spit out the sunflower seeds onto the ground. "What else is there for me to say? I mean, there wasn't any reason for you to say anything either…"

"You know what? Just never mind, Toph!" The airbender turned around and began walking back into the town while announcing, "I'll be in the city."

Toph rolled her eyes and jumped off the walls. "Wait, Twinkletoes."

Aang stopped, but didn't back to face her.

"You know at least I don't really care about getting all mushy, but I really thought you would have known me a little better after years of traveling together." Toph began walking towards Aang.

He turned around to look at her. "What do you mean?"

"I didn't think you were going to make it such a big deal, Twinkletoes. It just makes things difficult for us." She rubbed her arm while angling her head away from him. She was forced to see how he would react no matter which way he was facing. "Aang, of course I love you too."

Aang was so surprised by her confession that he didn't even have a chance to react before she continued.

"I'm not the one leading us, am I, Twinkletoes?" She gave a little smile. "I'm following you around just as much as you follow me around. When you lie down next to me, do I move away? When something is troubling us, who do we go to to talk about it? Each other." She moved her head back so Aang could look at her, even though she knew her cheeks were blushing. "What would make you think that this is a one-way deal?"

Aang stammered trying to reply, "You just don't ever seem to… I don't know, look like you're into it. I wasn't sure if maybe you just didn't notice that I was…"

"Because that's not who I am!" Toph laughed. "I'm not Sugar Queen. I'm not going to be giving you the same hints that I'm into you." She grabbed his hand. "I'll forgive you for now for not knowing that, but next time I won't go as easy on you."

Aang found the two of them far closer than they were just a minute ago. "Were you awake last night?" He breathed out.

"When you kissed me?" She asked with a smile on her face.

Aang nodded as their lips were only a hair away from each other. Right before he could do the same thing he did last night, the Avatar felt a sharp pain in his stomach and dropped to his knees. Toph had punched him in the stomach.

When he looked back up, she wasn't angry. In fact, she was giggling. "That was for kissing me without my consent last night." Her hands reached out to cup his face while he was still on the ground. "But now you do have it."

Finally, her cute pink lips were against his own and the pain seemed to disappear. He carefully stood up so as to not disturb the kiss and slipped his hands behind her head to run his hands through her jet black hair. The kiss ended far too early and when Toph pulled away, Aang found himself trying to keep the kiss going, but the girl was already walking away.

The airbender was left with a stupid grin on his face, but did nothing to hide it. He turned right back around to walk back into town, like he was going to before, humming all along the way. How did he ever doubt the two of them?
