"Did you see anything when we were on the dance floor, Max?" asked 99 as she and Max were hiding in Kristic's coat closet.

She wanted to know if he'd seen anything suspicious, but he, of course, took he statement in another direction.

"Only a little bit, and only because he dipped you kinda low," he answered, stealing a quick look down her dress.

She let out a breath and rolled her eyes. "Are you ready to get to work?" she asked impatiently.

"I'm ready to get to work, are you ready to get to work?" he asked, getting excited as his thoughts took a slightly dirty turn.

"Please Max, we need to focus or we'll be dead! Do you want that?"

99 was getting sick of him acting like a child. Why couldn't he just do what needed to be done without making suggestive comments or…staring at her like he was doing now.

"Why do you keep looking at me like that? It's getting on my nerves!" she said, making a move to leave the closet.

She was stopped by a hand on her arm. Great! What is he going to do now? Probably blow out cover, get us caught, then they'll kill us both.

"I look at you like because you are the most beautiful woman I've ever seen," said Max sincerely.

"Yeah, right, stop fooling around with me so we can go stop them."

"I'm not fooling around with you…yet…I honestly like you. If we die tonight, I want to know that."

She began to crumble when he looked at her with his sweet brown eyes.

"We won't die Max. We're agents; we can handle anything! At least, we're supposed to be able to."

"Can I kiss you?" he asked. He didn't want to die without knowing what it was like. And he was slightly jealous that Easter Island head guy had gotten a kiss and he hadn't. He'd pictured it in his mind several times since meeting with her, but it would never live up to the actual thing.

"That wouldn't be professional of me," she said, but still took two steps closer to him.

"Do you want to maybe die knowing that you never gave me a chance, 99?" he asked, almost pleading.

99 realized that he was right. They both knew that going into a mission meant that they might not be coming home, but another important thing to remember was to have no regrets. And so, before Max even knew what was happening, 99 threw herself at him and he fell to the floor. She straddled his legs and bent down to give him a powerful kiss. Max was in Heaven; this had been even more than he had hoped for.

He flipped her over so that he was on top. He ran his hands over her hips and her legs, all the while kissing her lips, her necks, and the tops of her breasts and praying to God that he'd live to do this again.

All too soon, he felt 99 push at his shoulders and she made to get up.

"W-why are w-we stop-ping?" he panted.

She took some deep breaths before saying, "We have a mission, remember? We have to go stop them before the good guys get hurt."

"Can…we do this again?" he questioned tentatively, not wanting to scare her off.

She didn't answer, just smiled and walked out the door. Max followed close behind her.

"Is that a yes?" he whispered as they walked down the hallway.

99 put a finger to her lips and said to be quiet and they'd talk later. Max hoped that "talked" meant "make-out" and that "later" meant "very soon."

99 really liked Max, and she knew Max liked her, but an agent had to be careful. You could never be too sure who was with you and who was against you. She'd learned that the hard way with 23, he really was a big jerk. Then again, Max was not 23. He was special in his own way and she could see herself being happy with him.

And with that, 99 gave Max a smile and he knew that meant "with some work, we'll be a great team."
