Title: The Last Meal
Title: The Last Meal
A/N: It's strange that last week's premier episode inspired my first ever CSI fic. However it did so I give you my tribute to Warrick, a character I truly loved and will miss.
Summary: After Warrick's funeral the team gravitates back to the last place they saw Warrick alive.
I think it's safe to say that if any of us had realized that that would be the last time we would see our friend Warrick alive we wouldn't have left. We would've stayed in that diner and held onto him forever. However you know what they say hindsight is 20/20 and exhaustion eventually had each of us calling it a night.
That's why it's no surprise to me that after the funeral we all ended back at that very same diner, this time with Sara, Brass, and Lindsey in tow. Once we were seated the silence was immediately broken up by Brass who said, "You know I was wrong…" He began as he explained to us all what his last words to Warrick were. "We were the lucky one's. Anyone that knew him was lucky."
It was the youngest member at our table, Lindsey, who spoke next, "You're right," She said with tears she hadn't yet cried brimming in her eyes. "Speaking of luck that reminds me what he said to me after my dad's funeral."
"What did he say, sweetie," Catherine interrupted completely unaware he'd said anything to her daughter at all.
"He told me that despite how sad I was I needed to remember something," Lindsey said then paused to take a deep breath before saying, "He told not forget that I still had my mom and that made me lucky because I could've lost you both at the same time like he lost his parents."
"Oh Sweetie, Come here." Catherine replied as she wrapped her arms around her daughter.
Lindsey did and as everyone else shared a memory of Warrick she finally broke down sobbing into her mother's shoulder.
We were all so caught in our memories that we didn't notice Tina had arrived with the baby until she spoke up saying softly, "Is it ok if I interrupt."
None of us knew what to say as we turned our gazes to her and the baby we now knew as Warrick's son.
"Sure, sit down please," Sara was the first to say as the rest of us continued to stare at the baby.
"Thanks," She replied as she did just that. "I uh… I know you guys were the closet thing to a family he had, so I thought it was only right that you meet his son, Eli. That's what he would have wanted."
We all nodded as she handed the baby over to the first person Warrick would've wanted to hold his son, Grissom. Next we all watched Grissom smile through his tears when Eli opened his eyes. Eyes that were the same soulful shade of his father's; Eyes that that let us know that Warrick would always be with us.
And as we each took our turn holding that precious little boy I'm pretty sure we all vowed that we would make sure he never forgot just what a good man his father was.
