A/N: Original title was to be Insanity. Old work, rotted in my computer and I finished the last two paragraphs while I was procrastinating. Yes I have been dead, but I liiive. Or not.

Disclaimer: Don't own Death Note.

Gainsay

Light rubbed his wrist, it ached slightly even after having been released from those dreadful handcuffs for over a week, and the familiar metallic ring still seemed to wrap its unforgiving jaws around his flesh. He glanced back to the computer and stifled a yawn, 3 in the bloody morning and he was trying to settle a case with the enemy. He smirked knowingly at the fact that it would all be over soon. L would die and he would have the upper hand with no competition. The screen flickered relentlessly, hurting his eyes. Maybe he'd take a break and go for some coffee.

"Hey Ryuuza-" he stopped short, the empty seat beside him revolved softly, creaking ever so slightly. How long had it been since L left? How could he not have known? He really needed to improve on his observatory skills, either that or L was moving way too fast for him. Geh, God forbid a 26 year old man move faster than him. Then again, this was L. Highly unpredictable.

Too right.

For some reason, he decided since he was going to the kitchen, he might as well grab something for L, he could have just settled for a nice big cup of sugar but the detective might take it as an insult though he definitely would not mind. Besides, L might get mad at him for not getting him anything.

He couldn't decide whether it was a good or bad idea even after he found the detective in question.

L was yelling, and he seemed pretty mad.

From the doorway, he strained his ears to try and make out what L was yelling, it seemed to be gibberish but that was only because L was talking way too fast for him to register. His mind slowly began to decipher the gibberish as the cogs turned at first at a sluggish pace but once the last of his sleepiness had faded away, he realized what L was yelling about.

"This is all your fault!"

What the- Was he still dreaming? His brain must not be working properly.

"If it weren't for you…" Nope, he was awake.

"Light-kun wouldn't be Kira!"

He froze, did L just… wait, who was he talking to?

Light peered around the doorframe and sitting there innocently on the counter was Rem's Death Note.

Light blinked once, twice. Then made his way back to the computer screens, adamant that the topic would never be discussed. But while he made his way back, did each step contain a slight wobble? A slightest glint of hesitation in his bleary eyes?

He'd forgotten the coffee. But did it really matter now?

The End

A/N: I've been procrastinating, actually this was supposed to be longer but I was too lazy, as you can tell. I started this last year about September? It's been rotting in my computer ever since. I don't feel like doing my homework so this is my outlet. Don't tell my mom, I'm not supposed to be online since I failed my history test. By half a measly mark.
