Author's Note: Okay, I know I'm supposed to be writing an Elliot and Liv fic (and I am). But there are some things that just won't leave you alone til you write them down. One-shot. Implied Liason. Hope ya all like it.

Disclaimer: I don't own the characters (if I did do you really think it would've taken me this long to get them together?). I mean no infringement on anyone.

Happy Reading!

Jason stared out at the water, his mind spinning out of control. All his thoughts focused on his son.

There were times when he knew that he'd made the right decision. Times when he trusted the decision with unrivaled conviction. But there were times, like now, when it all seemed so wrong. Times when not even Elizabeth's arms could banish the pain inside him. He felt frustration and anger swell within him. A terrible sadness swept over him, swallowing him whole.

He wanted so badly to be a part of his son's life. He wanted to be there when Jake closed his eyes, when he woke up each morning, to hold him when he cried. But he couldn't, and he had accepted that. It tore him apart more with each passing day he was away from his son. But he'd made the decision to protect his son from his world. And all that mattered now was that his son was safe and happy.

No matter what it cost him. He was determined to protect his son.

A surge of emotions fought their way up inside him, grabbing him, strangling him with their strength. He felt like he couldn't breathe. It hurt too much to breathe.

Jason felt tears sting his eyes, his throat tightening brutally.

He turned on his heel, crossing the docks quickly. He headed for the one thing that could still salve his battered soul. At least for a precious few hours.

He straddled his motorcycle, starting the engine with a swift turn of the key. The engine thrummed to life and he took off.

He drove fast and free, all his demons drained away, forced out by the roar of the engine and the open road in front of him. He pushed his bike faster, until he was little more than a blur against the countryside. A phantom on the road to nowhere.
