"Ah! Haruhi, I'm sorry I couldn't make it, yesterday. Kaoru was sick.." Hikaru trails off at the look of pain in Haruhi's eyes.
"Look, Hikaru-kun.. i'm really happy that you accepted being my date but... it seems as though you aren't really ready for this." She looks down. "I don't want you to date me if you aren't ready, Hikaru-kun."
Hikaru stares at her as she continues to talk.
"You're a wonderful boy and I know i'm probably making a big mistake right now, but you don't have to be with me - and don't worry, i'll tell everyone that you broke up with me, because in a way you did."
She turns.
"I understand perfectly how much to care for Kaoru and I want to respect how much you love him but I can't be anyone's number two. I know i'm being selfish but.. in the end, I think we both know that you won't be the one upset about this break-up. I don't want to make you choose between me or your brother, either."
She starts walking away, her tears taunting Hikaru. He calls out to her and she stops as he asks her in she'll wait for him.
She says only if he's sure he's ready to let go of Kaoru when the time comes.
I totally ship HikaHaru but it kinda feels like this is a plausible situation ^ Haruhi hasn't really been anyone's "Number one" and I feel like she should be. I understand Hikaru could treat her like that, but.. I dunno, I suppose i'm just weird.
