Chapter 1

Leaving Lothlorien

Italics- Elvish

Luthien looked out the window the Lothlorien sunrise hitting her face. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She opened her eyes to see Lady Galadriel standing next to her.

"Are you ready?" Luthien looked at her, "I suppose. I do not know why you need to send half the guards of Lothlorien with me."

Galadriel smiled, which revealed her beauty, "It was your fathers' idea."

Luthien laughed, "Yes he's quite over protective. Well I have to leave soon. I guess I should finish packing."

"I leave you then." Luthien watched as Galadriel crossed the room, when she had left she flopped on the bed and sighed.

Luthien was the daughter of Haldir of Lothlorien. Her godmother was Galadriel and the two were very close. Luthien was tall around 6' 1", she had green eyes, and golden colored hair. She was skilled with a bow, sword, and if needed knives.

Luthien sat up and started singing:

Ah! Like gold fall the leaves in the wind,
long years numberless as the wings of trees!
The years have passed like swift draughts
of the sweet mead in
lofty halls beyond the West,
beneath the Orange vaults of Varda
wherein the stars tremble
in the song of her voice, holy and queenly

She opened her wardrobe and got out a dress. It was blue with gold leaves embroidered between the breast and the waist. She slipped it on and admired herself in the mirror. She grabbed a brush and combed out her hair, which she pulled back into a low ponytail with two strands hanging in the front. She grabbed her pack that held food and clothing. She grabbed her bow and arrows and her sword. Her sword was very lightweight and long. On the hilt it had her name engraved and little golden leaves graced the handle and all the way up the blade. She read the inscriptions on the blade: "The lady that wields this sword will strike enemies down with her beauty and grace. Radiance, Clever, Strong a lady of Lothlorien." She smiled as she read the words; she remembered when her mother had given it to her for Luthien's 2,000th birthday. Luthien closed her eyes and remembered when her mother had gone to the West. She came out of her daydream when she heard her father calling for her. She opened her door, took one last look and stepped out into the Lothlorien sun, closing the door behind her.

Luthien walked gracefully to the stables and found her horse Haven already saddled and ready to go. She gently petted the golden chestnuts nose. All of a sudden she felt somebody put their hands over her eyes.

"Guess who", the voice said. She turned around to see her father standing there. "Well I think I am ready to go."

Haldir smiled and nodded his head, "Yes, well I'll go get the Lothlorien guard together"

Luthien smiled and turned around to face her horse, "Are you ready to go Haven?" The horse snorted and nuzzled her arm. "Okay, okay."

Luthien side saddled the horse and gently urged her forward. When they came around the corner Luthien rolled her eyes to see around 25 Lothlorien guards standing by the gates.

"Ada I really don't see why I need to take this many guards with me." Haldir smiled, "Luthien, Middle-Earth is not as it used to be", and he looked out past the Lothlorien gates, "take care of yourself Stay strong"

She nodded fighting back the tears threatening to fall. He kissed her gently on the cheek. He backed away and turned to leave. Luthien swallowed the lump in her throat and gently urged the horse forward. She turned around as she was going through the gate and thought, "I will miss you Lothlorien" She watched as Galadriel and Celeborn waved from their window, she waved back and faced the long journey that lay ahead.
