Narcissa sat down next to Lucius on a Victorian sofa. Their parlor was dimly lit with candles, giving it a warm feeling. It was late at night. They had just put their eight day old son to bed after many tireless hours staying up with him as he would cry. This was their first night since he was born that they were alone together.
"Lucius, we've finally done it." Narcissa said softly, breaking the silence that was so rare.
"We have." He agreed. He took her delicate hand into his.
Narcissa rested her head on his shoulder. "We've come so far. We have everything we have ever wanted."
"After all these years we finally have a son."
They had been trying for a child for as long as they were married. But Narcissa's body was too weak to carry one. She had already had four miscarriages, and each time it was a threat to her life. The healers told her she needed to terminate this pregnancy because she was just too weak, but she would never kill her and Lucius' child. The birth of their son was long and agonizing.
Despite the pain, Narcissa managed to pull through and she delivered a healthy baby boy named Draco.
Narcissa's third miscarriage left her in a deep depression. She would spend days at a time in her bed crying, blaming herself, while Lucius would be at a bar all night drinking. They got into arguments quite often, and it threatened their marriage. One night, Lucius came into her room to apologize. He realized what a fool he had been and how he should have been there for her. He promised to make it up to her and by that time the next night, they were in Paris.
Her next miscarriage, Lucius was there for her the whole time. They were there for each other.
She was scared to death the next time she was pregnant. She was in Venice, the couple's favorite vacation spot, when she found out. She promised herself she would take it easy. Since she would never have an abortion, the healer gave her precise instructions on how to live her day to day life. She would take a three hour nap daily, no stress, to rest often... He gave her a list of foods she could and couldn't have. Those nine months were hell for her. She wasn't even able to do her favorite pastime, sleeping with Lucius.
All of it was worth it though. She loved her son dearly enough that she'd go through it all over again for him. She loved the feeling of his tiny warm body held against hers, the soft sounds he made as he breathed.
"Draco will be spoiled." She said, with tears going down her face.
"We will spoil him rotten, darling."
