The season finale really stunned me, and I've been having issues with motivation to write ever since. I've given up trying to come up with a "realistic" approach to season 3, since I'm sure that the show's writers will come up with something remarkable. This is what I would wish for though, even if there's not a CHANCE it'll happen. I just wish they'd go ahead and get the first kiss over with already. Enjoy!
DISCLAIMER: I own nothing. But I really appreciate all of it! Castle belongs to Marlowe and ABC. :)
The workday had certainly not been a normal 9-to-5, but a case had been closed and another criminal was behind bars…and that was worth the extra hours. Glancing at her watch, Beckett grimaced when she realized that it was after 8 p.m. and she had skipped dinner. Pushing through the precinct doors, she stopped short when she saw Castle waiting at the bottom of the steps.
"Castle," she said, trying to recover her cool demeanor. "What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be in the Hamptons?"
"I came back a few weeks early," he said. He waited until she came down the stairs before continuing. "The book is almost done."
Running her hand through her hair, she tried to walk past him to head for home, but he blocked her path. "I'm surprised you didn't stay in the Hamptons longer, enjoy your time with Gina, that kind of thing." She fidgeted as she spoke, not yet ready to make direct eye contact with him.
"I couldn't," Castle explained simply. "I missed you too much."
Beckett was all too aware of how close to her he was. It seemed like she was suddenly all too aware of him in general. He leaned a little closer, and brushed her hair back with his left hand, tucking it behind her ear in a sweet gesture that seemed completely out of place at the moment. She looked at him and saw that the challenge issued in his eyes was nearly undeniable.
"Look, Castle, you're the one who left, with your ex, no less. I don't know what gives you the right to…"
Castle brushed his lips over hers, stopping her mid-sentence without another thought. His mouth closed over hers and she fell heart-first into the kiss. Her mind dimmed and she forgot about the fact they were on a busy public sidewalk. She fisted her fingers in his hair and let herself drown in the moment. Tilting her head back, she opened her eyes to see his blue ones staring back at her. In them, she saw everything she'd been afraid to want and all that she had truly needed.
Her lips curved as she leaned in slowly to touch her mouth to his again. His hands cruised around her back to hold her closer, and he lifted her an inch off the ground and circled slowly, their mouths still fused together. Setting her down again, he took a step back and clasped her hands in his, a broad grin spreading over his face.
"I guess we both have the right to remain silent," he said. "I love you, Kate."
