A Grandmother's story
By: Kittie Donnelly
Lorelai heard a loud knocking on the front door interrupting her dream. She glanced over at her pink fuzzy clock. 'Three in the morning! Who in the hell is crazy enough to wake me up now?' She thought to herself pulling back her blankets and throwing one of them around her shoulders. She heard the banging again as she started walking down the stairs.
The house was quiet and still with the early-morning feeling to it. She finally made it to the door and flung it opened just to see her best friend and frequent coffee supplier, Luke Danes standing in front of her. "Luke, what are you doing here?" she asked stepping out onto the front porch.
"I, uh. just need to talk." He said sitting on the stairs.
"Do you know what time it is?" she wrapped her blankets tighter around herself.
"Yes Lorelai, it's three o'clock in the morning. I'm really sorry for waking you up but I had to talk to you." He watched her sit down next to him and try to keep her blanket wrapped tight enough.
"And this couldn't wait four hours because."
"Because, I don't know. It just felt like the right time."
"Ok, Mister I-need-to-talk. What is the subject of this big discussion?" she turned to face him.
"You." He said looking into her sleepy, blue eyes.
"Ok, I wasn't expecting that."
Ignoring her last comment, "Lorelai I love you. I haven't been able to stop think about you for days. I wait for you to come into the diner each morning just so I can see your blue eyes, your dark hair, your beautiful smile. I can't sleep because you're always on my mind. And before you ask, no I'm not on drugs, I'm not drunk, and I haven't had any caffeine today. Very tired yes, but that's the only thing."
She was completely speechless. 'I guess the town was right. Luke is in love with me. And I'm in love with him too.' "Lore, please say something. You're." he was cut off when she kissed him.
"Luke I love you too." She said curling up to him.
"And that's how Grandma and Grandpa got together." Rory told her daughter, tucking her into bed. "That was a great bedtime story mommy."
"Now it's time for bed. Sweet dreams baby."
"Night mommy." Her daughter said turning over onto her side and falling straight to sleep.
"It is a great story." Rory said to herself walking into her room and going to sleep.
