Blinded
Summary: He cared. He just had a funny way of showing it.
One-shot
As her body lay there lifeless, Sasuke thought about what Haruno Sakura meant to him. Did she really mean anything? He racked his brain for something, should this be so hard? They had been teammates. They had shared emotional experiences. They had been through so much. Yet nothing significant came to him.
He thought back to when Team Seven started out. Sakura was constantly trying to pursue the Uchiha. Then there was Naruto, the idiot. Sasuke wouldn't deny he had a strong connection with the kid. No, he just didn't care.
He remembered when Sakura had hugged him, causing his curse mark to stop spreading throughout his body. It was a surreal moment. How could the girl have such a strong effect on him?
Sasuke didn't get why she didn't give up on him, even after he defected from the Hidden Leaf. She was always so persistent. She annoyed him to no end, but that is what made her who she was.
He finally thought back to the last time he was in Konoha. That talk with Sakura; she was begging him to stay. Tears had streamed down the young girls face, but that didn't stop him from leaving. One would think if their bond had been, it would have. Apparently it wasn't strong. Then again, maybe it was. Maybe Sasuke was too blinded by his own aspirations. Too seek revenge for his fallen clan. Yes, that was it. He was blinded.
And once again, the silly girl was crying. He almost felt bad for her. Almost.
Sasuke looked back at the dead girl, as she lay on the bridge . She had been crying in her final seconds, as said before hand. She began crying right before he slit her throat with the poisoned kunai. The very one she had intended to use of him. It was a shame she was crying. It really didn't suit her.
She was a fool, thinking she could actually kill him.
He laughed.
It was not a sadistic or mocking laugh. Nor was it one that held happiness.
It was one filled with sorrow and emptiness.
He laughed for his family, for himself, for Sakura.
Deep down, he almost wished he could cry. He could not muster up such feelings anymore.
Such a pity, it really was. He felt no satisfaction in killing the girl, that was for sure.
He was insane. Everyone knew that. The fact was that at this point, he could not change for the better.
Not even Naruto could help him. As much as he may try, there was no use.
Things could never be the same again. He was too far into the darkness. Too far in Madara Uchihas grasp.
He really hated how the blond kept trying to save him. Hell, Naruto was willing to die trying to save Sasuke.
Would it really be worth it in the end; throwing away your life to save a friend who never gave you the time of day? Why would that naive Uzumaki want to throw his life away for Sasuke?
His mind drifted back to the pinkette once more.
Then, using the last bit of sanity he had in him, before becoming completely blinded, he kneeled down next to her.
This time instead of a thank you, he whispered something else.
"I'm sorry, Sakura. Goodbye,"
And there you have it. Yes, I did post this once. I decided to go back and some more detail. Hope it is still okay. It could flow better, but ah well. It is what it is.
