Cecily woke up in a tangle sweat and hair. Her bed sheet had twisted around her chest, and she'd sat up choked on a scream that wouldn't come, out of breath. As her heartbeat slowly calmed itself, she looked around her bedroom. Everything was just as she'd left it when she'd gone to bed. Moonlight trickled through the half-open curtains, illuminating the room, reflecting off the bed-frame.

Her nightmare… She ran through the dark street, following the soft scuffling sounds she heard, her seraph blade shining in her hand, showing her the way. She was alone, when, suddenly, she heard a scream to her right. It was Will. She ran towards the sound, which quickly morphed from her brother's voice to Gabriel's, and she rounded a corner to see him run towards her, calling her name. She reached her hand out to him. And, suddenly, a large, shining metallic creature appeared behind him, its long blade of a hand cleanly pushing through his chest.

Gabriel.

Scrambling into her dressing gown, Cecily hastily left her room. Two doors down from her own, she reached Gabriel's room. She gently pushed open the door and stepped inside. He was sleeping, still in his gear, a candle burning brightly on the bedstead. She moved to his bedside, studying his calm face.

It was just a nightmare, she thought to herself. Everything's okay. She reached to brush the hair from his face, when, suddenly, his eyes opened. Within seconds, he'd caught her wrist and pinned her against the bed, elbow on her throat.

"Cecily," he exclaimed with surprise, realising it was her. "What are you doing in my room?"

"I… I had a dream."

"Cecy, are you all right? You're completely tense." Gabriel took her in his arms, worried by her distressed expression.

She relaxed instantly in his arms and closed her eyes, resting her head on his shoulder.

"I… I had a dream, and you were there, and you were running from something, and there was an automaton and… And it killed you, and I… I came here."

He laughed softly into her hair and took her face in his hands.

"Cecily, the automatons are gone now. Mortmain's dead remember?"

"I know… I just… I don't know why…"

He kissed her, tangling one hand in her hair, wrapping an arm around her waist to pull her closer. She melted into the kiss, arms over his shoulders.

"I love you," he murmured, pulling away.

"Though, don't tell your brother that, or he might kill me."

She laughed, getting on her toes to kiss him again.

"Stay with me tonight." She whispered.

"Are you sure? What would Will say?"

"He doesn't need to know. And anyway, he can't say anything. It isn't as if he sleeps in his room either. And, it's not like we're going to do anything wrong."

Gabriel raised an eyebrow, grinning.

"Really, because I could think of a lot of things-"

"Shut up."

She kissed him, pulling him onto the bed.

Gabriel fell asleep with his arms around her waist, and couldn't help but marvel at how amazing it felt to be there, beside her.
