Disclaimer: I do not claim ownership of Bleach, but I do claim ownership of Abarai Renji. (Or at least the Renji scroll on my wall.)
Restless
. . .
She is asleep, or at least trying to sleep, in the warmth of her bed and her room. She can hear the rain, but it is outside and away from her. The sound becomes a constant rhythm in the back of her mind. Her eyes are closed tightly, and she begins to drift when she is filled suddenly with his scent.
Blinking furiously, she turns her head and his eyes meet hers. A sliver of moonlight only allows her to see his face only faintly, but she can see he is not smiling. His silver hair is wet, and he is wet; he does not speak.
She ignores the sinking feeling inside of her and reaches a hand to touch the soft skin of his cheek. She whispers his name, and he closes his eyes, the frown curving his lips swelling more terror in her heart.
"Gin."
She presses herself into his arms, the water from his hair dripping onto her cheeks. And he rests his cheek against her head, his fingers running through her long hair.
He does not speak and he does not smile when he pushes her away from him suddenly, looking down at her as he cups her cheek. He brings his other hand up to hold her other cheek, bringing her close to press his lips against her forehead.
"Gin," she whispers again, reaching to him as he stands to leave, his back turned to her. He stops at the sound of his own name and she can see his shoulders fall as he sighs weakly.
"Rangiku."
She stares until the door is closed behind him, and even after, when the feeling inside of her does not subside and she cannot sleep.
. . .
It is winter and the sky is dark and gray, but it does not snow. Instead, it rains. Sheets of water pour down and create darkness so that she cannot see the streets below her.
She stands on top of the tallest building she could find, and for once, she does not hide from the rain. It pours down on her, making her clothes heavy and her hair thick with water. The mass clings to the back of her neck and she pulls at a thick strand.
The sake she drank only minutes ago has left no warmth in her body.
As she looks down the side of the roof, the stone streets are swallowed, like rivers of black, reaching out for her to join.
"Rangiku."
And the look on his face, his voice is in her head and he says over and over, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry."
The sound of his voice breaks her heart.

Author's Note:
I've had this plot bunny in my head for some time now, and it all sort of came out today, mostly because of sad Bleach OST songs and my own personal feelings at the moment.
Gin and Rangiku's relationship makes my heart hurt so bad in a completely amazing way. Hope you enjoyed this (:
