The Ends.

Author's Note: This just popped into my head right now. I wrote it in about fifteen minutes, so I don't really know how good it is. It's a simple, one shot thing that I tried out. It's a non-narrative and probably my first one at that. WARNING: Spoilers for all of season 1.

1.

Duncan doesn't sleep anymore. Not since the night he watched his sister and Aaron Echolls have sex in the Echolls' pool house. Not since it became clear that for a year his parents believed him capable of murdering his sister. Lilly doesn't haunt his dreams anymore. He doesn't feel her watching him and that's what hurts the most, knowing that she's gone for good now. The night he stopped taking his pills for good, was the last night he ever saw her. It was the night after Aaron Echolls was arrested for her murder. It was nothing but the sound of her laugh, the sight of her blonde hair as she ran outside.

That was the last time she visited him. She had run out of the Kane house, out of Duncan's life. He doesn't sleep in hopes that maybe she'll come back to him. Maybe she'll run back in and everything will be normal again. They can go back to being the happy foursome they had been, especially now that he knew Veronica wasn't his sister. It could be like how it was before.

Lilly will never come back, and he knows this deep down.

2.

Veronica knows that this is how it's supposed to be. She sits in her room, staring at her laptop at the now empty folder. All the evidence, all her research is gone because she doesn't need it anymore. She solved the case, she found the murdered, and it's over. Lilly's death has been avenged; her ghost has been put to rest. Every waking hour is no longer filled with Lilly's presence and suddenly she feels very empty. Since the day Veronica had met Lilly, she had belonged to her. Everything had revolved around Lilly Kane.

Lilly was gone now. She was no longer the center of the world, and Veronica feels alone. There's nothing to keep her going. When she had been trying to find out what happened, Lilly had still been there, Lilly had still controlled her life and every move. Now, there is nothing but a hole where Lilly used to be.

Lilly is gone for good, and she's trying to accept it.

3.

Logan had always known that Lilly was seeing other guys. He had known that when they broke up, she'd have a line up guys begging for her to take them. Never had there been a doubt though that he didn't love Lilly. Never had he wanted to see her as a slut. Not until he was laying on the side of the highway drunk and beaten almost to death by a bunch of angry bikers who thought he killed Lilly. Not until a friendly civilian had pulled over to help him and he'd heard the radio about his father's arrest, about his affair with Logan's girlfriend.

He had loved Lilly with all of his heart, and she had stopped on it. She had stuck a knife through it. The one person in his life that he had clung to, that he had loved, had betrayed him by sleeping with the enemy. Lilly had known. Lilly had always known what Aaron did to him.

Lilly is dead, and maybe, just maybe he's glad.
