A/N: I don't know where this came from, but I thought it was a pretty moment. It's really short, but I like it and hope you do too.

Puddles

"Kyo, the puddles!" Tohru exclaimed, pointing at the spots of wet on the sidewalk and street.

"Yeah, what's so special about 'em?" he asked distastefully, shoving his hands in his pockets. He glanced furtively at the sky, expecting a sudden change in weather. It had rained for most of the day, making him moody and tired, but Shigure had practically shoved him out the door this morning, telling him he couldn't skip school because of rain. Thankfully the weather cleared, and the sun beamed down on the drenched world below.

The sun didn't dry the water fast enough in his opinion, and he carefully sidestepped puddles. But Tohru, for some unfathomable reason, was practically euphoric.

"When the sun shines on them, doesn't it look like the world is sparkling?" she asked him, placing her hand on the crook of his elbow. Mulishly he gazed down at her happy face, and then sighing, turned his eyes to the landscape before him. The sun chose to shine at that particular moment, probably because Tohru was so gleeful, and the sunlight glimmered and made the world sparkle, just as she said.

How could he hate the humidity, the puddles, the rain, when it all made Tohru so delighted? Fact was, he couldn't. Irritated, he scrapped his shoe along the sidewalk.

"Yeah," he said finally, resigned to submitting to Tohru's sense of beauty to keep her smiling. She laughed and flounced ahead, only turning when Kyo didn't follow her immediately. When she turned, she'd caught Kyo staring at her, and just for an instant before he smiled at her, she thought she saw a frown, as if he'd been thinking about something sad or painful.

"Kyo! Let's have fish for supper tonight," she said, going back to his side and pulling on his arm. Their eyes locked, and the sun warmed them and made diamonds out of the dirty water that pooled on the ground at their feet.

A/N: Looking back on it, this makes me sad…or hopeful…I don't know. I wish I knew what's going to happen in the manga. Anyway, hate it or love it, but please review it. Thanks!
