Selene Branwen

In the United States there are many hero schools recognized for their reputation and most of the time, the number of famous heroes teaching in schools to create a new generation of heroes. However, United States has one peculiar school that is recognized for its strict regulations and successful younglings. More so than the current number one school: UA of States. This school is called Code Academy, ranked as number three out of the best ten hero schools in America.

But...

Code Academy is also ranked as number two for being the world's strictest and hardest hero school. So much, it is seen Code Academy only accepts 40 applications out of 500 applications. All 500 applicants are submitted into three tests that tests their intelligence, physical and psychological. Unlike other hero schools, Code Academy gives their students the freedom to choose their own class called Programs. These programs are identified as Hawk, Owl, Wolf or Butterfly programs. Students of this academy have a way of identifying these programs based on colors:

The Hawk is known as White Program.

The Owl is known as Red Program.

The Wolf is known as Blue Program.

And the Butterfly is known as Black Program.

Mainly because Code Academy is a strict color-coded school and identifies their students based on the color of their uniform.

However, many students tend to apply for the heroics department, Wolf Program, that the school administrators are forced to sort the students out. Psychological testing mainly plays here to sort the students in either Wolf or Butterfly Program. It has been discovered upon investigation students must score 500 points or higher for both mental and physical exams. Each question for mental is worth 10 points while the physical exam changes each year. Although, we've also concluded if the student fails the psychological testing, no matter his/her points, he/she is automatically rejected.

Code Academy has also a limit of ten students in each class year for each program. This is set up as is for the faculty to give their sole attention on the students. It can also be the reason why so many successful heroes has been graduating from this school. This school isn't just known for being strict, but it is very widely known among the wealthy.

Code Academy is a private wealthy school. A large percentage of the school is made of high class while 1% is made by working or low class. For the two latter classes, the school provides them with scholarships to pay for their tuition each semester. Not year, semester! There has been controversial arguments regarding on the well beings of quirkless able to attend this heroic school. Although, the academy has assured time and time again they never allow quirkless attend the heroic departments: Wolf or Butterfly.

Here is what each program I've acquired means:

The Hawk Program has white colored uniforms and this program dwells in Heroics Support Department. Quirkless can enter this program. This program mainly dwells in the art of support to the heroes. Meaning, students that prefer to enter as a supportive-type to the heroes and aid them for information, combat, equipment, etc. Here, students also acquire the experience of being thrown in a situation when the need of medical attention, support or information is needed by a hero. The Hawk Program is known to work a lot with the Wolf Program. Although, this is confused to being a heroic department, when it is not. To the students, this program is seen as individuals who are money hungry due to the many world-wide companies that come to visit this sole department.

The Owl Program has red colored uniform and this program dwells in Heroic Management Department. Quirkless can also enter this program. This program mainly dwells in the study of political supervision on heroes. It specializes in managing all aspects of the heroics business; from funding and managing hero agencies; executive producing heroes, supervising, etc. Therefore, the students practice supervising the Hawk, Wolf and Butterfly Programs. This program is also known to manage the school system and treasury. There is wild rumors of Owl Program always throwing luxurious and extravagant parties.

The Wolf Program has blue colored uniform and this program is The Heroic Department. This program is for students who want to be heroes and learn to serve their community. Here, students will know more about heroics than just saving and beating up bad guys. Not much is known about this other than the Wolf Program allowing their students to take "missions" to gain experience in hero work.

The Butterfly Program has black colored uniform and this program is the "extras" that did not make it into the Heroic Department. Truth be told, I'm heavily confused what this program even is. On one side of the coin, the Butterfly Program IS studying for heroics YET they're also studying for villainy. According to students, the Butterfly Program is viewed as an "omen" due to its reputation and large number of students dropping out of this program. There have been ridiculous rumors of former criminals studying under this program to become heroes. Perhaps the sheer dread and hate towards this program has caused students to stir the most exaggerated stories.

Dr. Roux slammed her head onto the table as her left hand furiously scratched out the folder containing Mason Easter in red sharpie. She lifted her head slowly, sporting a small circular red patch on her forehead. Her blue eyes stared at nothing but the black wall as her mind replayed the conversation she had with the previous individual.

Despite what Mason claimed of wanting to become a hero, his mind was dark and twisted. His view of the world is sick that made Dr. Roux insides twist in disgust. He must have sniffed it out in the end when his happy demeanor suddenly took a eerie calm. And then the comment at the near end, "don't you want to clean the world?" While this term can be no doubt used as a way to take out the trash in society to better the lives of people. Dr. Roux knew he isn't speaking of wiping the world of villains. In fact, he speaks of wiping those who oppose him of his ideals. And she knew there was a low-key threat hidden in that innocent tone with the sweetest smile painted on his face.

Mason has a lot of hate and rage within him. There is no way he is classified to enter the Butterfly Program.

And that also has left her in a temporary stupor state when the headmaster explained to her the ludicrous rumor is actually true! Although, Butterfly Program each year has only four criminal students with the philosophy of good morals. Even if their way of doing good is often frown upon, it is nonetheless, good intentions. Judging from the records, it is mainly criminal students that managed to graduate from Code Academy. Dr. Roux snorted at the time, knowing full well if those criminals end up failing, back to prison they go. Or back to the asylum they go. Or back to the miserable life they had go.

Dr. Roux thought when Code Academy wanted her to advise and supervise a program, she thought it will be for the heroic department, Wolf Program. She also thought the reason they reached out to her and didn't bother explaining to her the system of the school is because she was a former student of said academy. In fact, Dr. Roux graduated as the top three in Hawk Program. Gaining her Masters degree on psychology and criminal psychology. Seeing since she lacked a quirk and wanted to help in some form or way to the community yet provide support to the heroes, she did all her hardest work to work for one of the top five heroes of America.

But this dream never happened. In fact, she was rejected all because for being quirkless. Their main concern was become deadweight to the heroes despite her curriculum showing her vast knowledge in martial arts. She took martial arts classes due to the fact at witnessing first hand what its really like when heroes are at work. To avoid putting more work onto the heroes hands, she decided to look out for herself. But all the while supporting the heroes with her vast skill in the mind of humans. Dr. Roux picked this field of study because she wanted to understand the mind of a villain and profile them.

Turns out the reason Code Academy reached out to her was because of her curriculum expertise. She is to only advise and profile each student of Butterfly Program when school starts three weeks from now. Her job is also to now fill in the shoes of the Madam Phobia, a woman in her sixties and already retired. She is to evaluate each criminal child from ages fourteen or fifteen and select four of them with good morals or sense of doing the right thing. No matter how questionable it may seem, it is all done with good intentions.

Dr. Roux tucked a blonde strand behind her ear as she closed the already scribbled red ink folder with the other pile of no! files. There was a headache pulsing and was in deep need of some hot, toasty hazelnut coffee. She has sorted through twelve cases... And all of them have not met to her standards of good.

She grabbed lazily the last file and flipped it open to see the picture of a toddler. She blinked, rubbing her tired eyes gently and carefully, to not smudge the makeup off her face. Then blinked to the paper to see it is, indeed, a toddler in the photo. However, the age did not meet up to the photo.

What? She rubbed her temples as she glared at the file before her. Reading the file of Selene Branwen who is a female, fifteen years of age, and her quirk... Dr. Roux did a double take. What Jackpeppers is this? Grabbing the entire folder and flipping two pages then back to the toddler photo. That's impossible! There's no way she has... Impossible! She stared at the photo that held a little girl with long black hair, disheveled. Her silver eyes dull with rings around her eyes. Not of lack of sleep, but more like too much crying. Her complexion is very pale and her lips harbor spots of red.

The girl in the photo just looks completely miserable.

Dr. Roux leaned onto her chair, pressing the button to bring in the next prisoner as she thought about her last case. At the age of five she was considered dangerous due to her quirk and was placed on this Sky Prison as her sentencing. On her file was written in bold, cap letters "parent killer" and charged for 2nd degree murder as her criminal file. She must have been arrested at the death of her parents considering how miserable she looks.

For a child at that age to be a killer, to them it is a game. If anything, a child killer is far more dangerous than an adult killer.

An adult will be far more organized, careful and predictable. Very few managed to escape from the authority. While a child killer is considered unpredictable, careless and on a whim. Mainly these cases of a child killer show first signs of psychopathy. She knew Code Academy wouldn't select this girl just for her age, but perhaps for some hidden potential. Maybe someone in the government has a quirk to spot hidden potential and it is her job to evaluate them. Who knows?

The door opens to reveal someone strapped onto a wheel chair with a white gown. Long black tendrils brushed nicely on either side of the face, however, the face was covered with a metallic mask. Her hands bound together with metal clasps. Even then the men made sure the wheel chair was pinned onto the ground and away from Dr. Roux's table; exactly six feet away.

"How peculiar,"

It took Dr. Roux a moment to realize the soft spoken voice filled with wonder came from the figure in front of her. The masked girl cocking her head to the side with small little sniffs. This action made Dr. Roux frown as she took note of the many quirk sealings strapped around her. There was some on her hands, legs, arms, neck, torso... With the way they strapped her, she would look perfect for the role of an insane patient from the future.

The men finishing their ministrations, they left. Though one stared wearily at the white figure in which Dr. Roux took note the way the man clench his fists and a vein pulsing from the side of his neck. This man did not fear Selene... He felt absolute rage. And Dr. Roux wondered why?

"Who are you?"

Dr. Roux has had two prisoners who initiated the conversation first. It was mainly from pride. To give themselves the illusions of feeling in control of the situation. Despite the odds being against their favor. Speaking with the same intention of bailing themselves out as soon as she asked them the exchange of a lifetime deal. All believing their lies were perfectly disguised and away from their true intentions. She may lack a quirk, but she can tell those boys were lying.

It was very easy. Their eyes adverting, playing it off with smiles and laughs. One's habit of nervous fidgeting every time he lied. Too predictable.

But Selene asked with genuine curiosity.

At least it sounded to her genuine. For all she knows, Selene may have become a master at the arts of disguising her voice in different tones of emotions while her eyes could be shining in twinkles of madness.

That mask is going to get away from her work.

"My name is Valerie Roux, Dr. Roux is how you'll address me." Dr. Roux took note how Selene seem to have straighten her posture - or at least tried to; not with those constrains - with her masked face seemingly appearing she's staring at her. Mannerisms... How interesting. So different from the other individuals, Dr. Roux mentally filed this information for later use as she continued. "I am a professional psychologist and will be evaluating you. I will determine if your condition is good enough to leave this place."

Here.

Here she'll see any colors of Selene.

Taking note how Selene cocked her head to the side. "You don't work here?"

Out of all responses, Selene picks this one. Though she took note how confused she sounded.

"No," Dr. Roux shook her head, although, she knew it was pointless. "I work for the government."

"... Did you know there's a little bird that can't fly?"

She blinked, "what?"

Selene nodded. "This little bird spends its days picturing the world. Fell from its nest too early. Can't fly like a proper bird. Can't even sing either." Dr. Roux was becoming more confused to what Selene was talking about. She suddenly started talking about birds after she told her she works for the government. But she did not interrupt her and let her continue on as if she understood what she is talking about. "This little bird has her wings chipped, sad isn't? Unable to call for help. Unable to defend itself when the touches occur. And when this little bird draws of its abuse... No one believes it."

Oh.

Oh.

Suddenly, Dr. Roux glanced at the door then leaned onto her table, "What did they told the little bird?" Now knowing exactly what Selene is referring. She is the little bird. Dr. Roux has heard of horror stories of the wards abusing sexually their own prisoners. It was an abuse of power, really. Selene wasn't interested about leaving the compound. She was more interested in getting justice done.

"My dear, sheltered with other little birds unable to fly... No more unable to dream? Must you weave a tale of lies?" Selene leaned forward, like sharing a secret. "The secretary knows of her little birds treatment. She won't tell because it's convenient for her."

She frowned. Why would it be convenient for the secretary? She pulled a sticky pad and wrote to check into the secretary. "Can this little bird identify them?"

"By scent, yes."

Scent? Dr. Roux glanced once again the numerous quirk sealings decorated on her body. It's impossible for her to use her quirk! She filed that for later, continuing her investigation. "Have they touched you?" She whispered, afraid of being overheard, but also mentally facepalming because of the metal mask. There's a high chance Selene didn't even hear a single word.

She glanced down to her hands being bind together. "The little black bird has no means to defend itself. Luckily, the little black bird only feels touches caressing its clothes. Too afraid to undo the cage. Afraid of the little black bird claws."

Dr. Roux was quite baffled at Selene being able to hear her. But she felt relief rush over her at the wonderful quirk sealings saving her from something far more great. She could just imagine some of those ward guards trembling at the thought of undoing the sealings. Considering most of those sealings are placed nearly her entire body. But on her face? Could these "claws" be the symbolism of her biting and tearing the flesh? Or far more meaningful?

"Why do you have the mask?"

Normally a mask is given to make the prisoner no longer able to bite their victims. But nowhere in her file states she is a biter. Not to mention, no mask has the entire face covered.

"A silly reason." Selene leaned back onto her chair, trying to straighten her posture to only continuously fail. Her body slipping further down with no means to put brakes. Her legs shackled to the sides of the wheelchair. Preventing her from lifting her legs. "They're afraid of the little black bird's beauty. Believing the little bird will enchant them."

Dr. Roux pressed the button for the men to come in. "Take off the mask." She ordered them before they can try and wheel her away.

"What?" It was the weary man who spoke. Appearing more nervous than before as he kept glancing from Selene to Dr. Roux. Obviously curious of the conversation both females shared. "We can't-"

"You will take off that mask. It is interfering with my work."

Which is true. Dr. Roux can't do a proper evaluation with that pesky mask in the way. She needs to not only hear but see her patients to determine their psychological state.

"Madam, I don't think that's a good idea."

Dr. Roux rubbed her temples, another growing headache tearing its way. "Do I need to take this up to your manager? Better yet, to the higher ups? I am a agent and psychologist. You will do as I say or I will have you all fired from your positions for disobeying a direct order from the government." The perks for working for Code Academy, they have connections with the government.

That seem to do the trick. Both of them furiously working on undoing the straps and removing the mask to reveal pieces of long strands of hair squished onto one side of her face. Selene blinked rapidly as Dr. Roux noted milky, silver eyes. Disappearing and appearing with each blink. There was circles underneath her eyes, lack of vitamins and sleep it seems. Finally, Selene's eyes seem to have adjusted to the lighting of the room.

"You can leave." She told the two men whom were standing at the sides staring at Selene. The two snapped from their stupor and immediately ran out of the room.

Selene's eyes tracked them all the way out then settled her sights onto Dr. Roux as soon as the door clicked behind the two men.

Dr. Roux had to admit, Selene Branwen is a very beautiful girl. If Selene was a normal girl with a normal life, she'll fit perfectly in Disneyland playing Snow White princess.

"Disgusting,"

"Excuse me?" Dr. Roux blinked at the sudden tone. Seeing how her features twisted in disgust.

"I never understood why do humans do this." Her eyes seemed glazed, focusing on some distant memory before snapping themselves back onto Dr. Roux. "Forgive my manners, your smell is very revolting." Dr. Roux eyebrows rose. "A strong stool of a beast. There is lavender in there too. I suspect that's your true scent being demolished with perfume."

"How?" A cold chill flushed down her spine to the pit of her insides. How? How is she able to smell me? She took another look at the numerous sealings decorating her body. It's impossible! There's no way that's...

"I can smell you." Selene interrupted Dr. Roux thoughts as she glanced to the door. "Those two have a natural scent. The tallest smells salty while the skinniest smells like maple and oranges."

"No," Dr. Roux shook her head. The cold creeping into her fingers as she suddenly grew incredibly nervous. "How are you able to smell me?"

Selene stared at the psychologist for a bit. She wasn't studying the doctor in front of her. More like complementing whether she should be honest of her truest feelings or leave it. But she never had another human to speak with. Knowing she might never see Dr. Roux again, she gave in to the former. "I don't know. I simply can... Like that day... It just happened." Her eyes took a deep sorrow when the memory of her parents sprung to life. "It wasn't on purpose. All I remembered was being hungry... Next I knew I was here." She turned to her, curious of her true purpose. Selene doubted Dr. Roux came to simply evaluate her mental condition.

Matter of fact, she studied her not as a specimen like the others. Dr. Roux studied her as if she were looking for something.

"What are you here for, Dr. Roux?"

Dr. Roux carefully analyzed Selene Branwen. All her comments were pure honesty and genuine. There was no hints of lies, madness or even malice. She has mannerisms, like a lady. She must have come from a family of wealthy origins to still remember her mannerism despite the location she dwells in. As soon as Dr. Roux revealed her position being part of the government, all the prisoners did anything to impress her with the hopes to leave this prison. But all those sugar coats were lies disguised with another set of lies. But when she revealed her position to Selene... Selene simply saw her as an opportunity to bring justice.

Not to leave or try to impress her.

All she cared about is the justice.

Dr. Roux came to the conclusion Selene gave up on hope the moment she stepped foot inside this prison. She probably still believed this is all just a dream. It can explain the lack of reaction. No sign of hope or even the sparkles of life to be able to leave this place.

Which means, Dr. Roux eyes narrowed at Selene, she is blaming herself for something. But for what? Dr. Roux glanced to Selene's file and read her criminal background. The second degree murder on her parents. The death of her parents? She bit her lip as she began to flip a coin between her fingers. A habit she has when in deep thought and brainstorming. She is taking this as punishment then. But why? Could it have been an accident? Did she accidentally killed her parents? With her quirk? She flipped the page to read on her background. It was brief, but it showed the record when her parents brought her to the hospital when her quirk awoke.

And it was when she was four years old.

Dr. Roux couldn't help, but agree with her conscious. She felt intrigued by Selene Branwen. Her mind was peculiar and riddled with secrets. One thing that she learned recently in Code Academy, everything written down in paper isn't what it all seems. And she'll be damn that she is willing to swat the rules away and note Selene down as potential when really it is only just an excuse for her to further study the peculiar mind of Selene Branwen.

After all, it was a huge shock for her three weeks ago when she learned Butterfly Program is a heroic program for the nation. Not for the community like traditional heroic programs. On paper, they are extras that never made it into the heroic program. But behind the scenes, they are being trained in doing both role tasks of villainy and heroics. For the sake of their nation, they are to become whatever the government desires them to be.

Soldiers for short.

It explains the numerous drop outs.

But Mr. Stanley, the headmaster of Code Academy, has told her this year will be different. The professor for the first year has retired and found a replacement for him. Who was the person's identity however? That was a mystery to her. Perhaps she'll just find out when the term starts.

"Do you believe of leaving this place?"

Selene cocked her head to the side, giving a genuine concern look to her. "Are you sure you want me loose? I am aware I'm considered dangerous." She looked around her before setting her sights on her bound hands. "I've no desire to leave. What can you possibly offer?"

Yes, Dr. Roux nodded inwardly at seeing Selene Branwen does, indeed, blame herself for the death of her parents. Now knowing her crime was not committed on a whim or a moment of wild emotions taking over her. It was done on accident. It could have been the wild emotions, however. Maybe this place happened to boil her emotions to the surface or these ten long years in captivity must have left a partial shell of her former self. But either way, it confirms to her Selene did not have a psychosis episode when the murder occurred.

So, what exactly happened on that day?

Selene wasn't being honest. That did not bother Dr. Roux, knowing there are some things she can't touch unless she wants to do a full investigation on her. But that will mean she will violating her authority.

"I can't offer anything, miss Branwen." Selene's eyes flickered to Dr. Roux's blue orbs. "But the people who I work for can." Here goes nothing, Dr. Roux got up from her chair and walked around the table to lean into it and stare Selene directly in the eyes. "They are willing to clear your entire criminal background in exchange for three conditions." She held three fingers to her, placing an index finger on the first as she began to list off the conditions. "The first, you will enter a hero school," Selene's frowned at this. "and graduate - all four years - from this hero school. The second," placing her finger onto the next. "You will not commit any offensive crime. Such as biting," Dr. Roux glanced at Selene's file when she saw the nickname they gave her:

Binge Eater.

"Doing so, the deal will automatically be off and you'll return back to this place. And lastly, the third," placing onto the last finger, "you will monitored under the watchful eyes of the government and faculty. However, you'll have freedom and be allowed to do your own thing. But you'll have to agree being watched and abide to the rules. Violating this will lead to the same condition, you'll get deported back in here."

"... If I fail to graduate?"

"It will lead to the same conclusion." Dr. Roux watched how the gears worked in Selene's mind. "You're welcome to reject the offer. I can offer this to another person. But I'm giving you the opportunity to leave this place under these conditions. It's not a bad deal, yes?"

"Can I save people?"

There was more meaning into the question as Dr. Roux looked into Selene's eyes. For the first time since their exchange of words, there was finally a flicker of hope dancing behind the silver. It dawned on Dr. Roux, Selene was looking for judgement. It wasn't 'can I save people?', it was 'am I capable of saving anyone?' That guilt of her parents, unable to save them or change the outcome that must have been playing in her mind all these years, must be the sole reason to why she needs to punish herself. In her mind right now, Dr. Roux can see if she enters the Butterfly Program, her parents could pardon her by saving lives.

Which also means... She sees herself as a monster and not a human being. Dr. Roux sighed, kneeling in front of her as Selene's head dropped down to look at her. Removing the tangled black hair to the side of her face, noting how cold she felt. Must be her quirk.

"Yes," Selene's lips parted as her eyes became glassy. "But I believe you can do more than just that."

May God forgive me.

"Do I leave now?"

Dr. Roux gave her a smile, "I have to file in my report. But we'll see each other soon. For now," She got up from her position and walked around the table to sit on her chair, very aware of Selene's eyes following her. "I'll call the school administrator to file in your ID and dormitory card. We'll have to give you a makeover and change of clothes. Also," Pressing the button for the men to place the mask back on and wheel her away back into her cell. "I'll have these people face judgement."

Selene gave her one last smile before it was hidden back behind the mask as Dr. Roux placed her file on a green folder. The others ready to toss them inside a furnace, but tucked it in with a rubber-band inside her bookbag. When the men wheeled her away and was left alone...

Dr. Roux covered her face as she repeated to herself over and over: "It's my job. It's my job. It's my job."

CODE ACADEMY POLICY:

1. Uniform must correspond to students proper color-coded program. If the student fails to meet this requirement, the faculty will be forced to correct the student's dress code. Customization on the uniform is allowed as long as it is school appropriate. This means no offensive words or pictures that can offend another party and must be color appropriate to his/her program.

2. Students are not allowed to dye his/her hair in eccentric colors. They must keep their natural hair or the faculty will do it for them. Boys are not allowed to have long hair. Girls must pick up their hair. We are not responsible if the student fails to follow these rules and an accident occurs. Each program will have their own set of rules regarding a student's hair length.

3. Code Academy will provide the student with ONE student ID and ONE dorm card. If student happens to loose one or both of these IDs, student must pay a fine for the replacement. For the ID will be $500 and the dorm card $25.

4. The campus is not responsible for a student failing to attend his/her classes. Each program has their own set of sick days a student is allowed to miss. Passing over the limit of sick days will file an expulsion letter to the student by their own professor. Therefore, it is encouraged for him/her to attend each class and be responsible.

5. Students whom received financial aid and/or scholarships are to renew a week BEFORE the end of each semester. Students are to log in to their Canvas account using their ID number and password to renew.

6. The campus is not responsible for the point system. Each program and professor has their own point system. Therefore, students must abide to the rules of their professor and learn the rule system of their program if they wish to avoid expulsion. Expulsion is to students given on lack of points to the headmaster by a letter written from the professor.

BUTTERFLY/BLACK PROGRAM:

1. If the student fails to meet the required points needed at the end of every month (120), he/she will automatically be expelled.

2. if the student is caught using his/her quirk ON campus grounds, he/she will automatically be expelled.

3. In this program, students will take FOUR final exams. Each final exam will be different and will be given at the end of the Second Semester. Meaning, students will not take their final exam with the other programs. These exams are called Spade, Clover, Diamond, and Heart. Freshmen are to take the Spade Exam, Sophmore are to take the Clover Exam, Junior is to take the Diamond Exam and finally, Seniors are to take the Heart Exam.

4. In this program, students will study a large variety of things. One of them is the study of quirks. Most obvious note, students will learn the path of heroism yet dwell in the arts of villainy. The campus will not dwell in the business of the students. Only the professor of his/her assigned class is allowed to do this.

5. Students will not be allowed to miss THREE sick days for each semester. These sick days does not necessarily mean student must be under the influences of flu. It can also be used as a plausible excuse to leave the campus grounds. Not excusable sick days is going to a concert, a relative's wedding, next door party, etc. If student is to report sick, he/she must talk to the professor TWO DAYS BEFORE leaving. This way, the professor can adjust to his/her schedule and work out a solution to the student's assignments.
