"Hey, Numbuh five can I talk to you?" Nigel asked his friend.
Abby was sitting in her bedroom in the treehouse. She had her feet propped up on her coffee table as she sat on her couch, reading a magazine. She peered at Nigel under the brim of her cap and nodded toward him, saying, "Sure Numbuh one. What is it?"
He sat down on the couch and fixed his sunglasses.
"Well... I wanted to congratulate you for that award you earned last night. I think you really deserved it and I'm glad you won it."
"Is that all you wanted to talk about?" Abby raised a quizzical brow at him.
He turned to her and shook his head slowly.
"No... I wanted to really talk to you about something important. I never got to talk to anyone about this before and I know you'd be the person to help me." He looked down at his lap as he wrung his thumbs over one another. Abby noticed this and slowly put her feet flat on the ground. She patted her friend's back in support and tipped her hat upward so she could see him better. Nigel turned to her and saw she was wearing her reading glasses.
She smiled at him slightly.
"What is it that you want to talk about Numbuh one?" She asked him, taking off her glasses with her other hand and placing them on the table next to the pillow she had put there to make her feet comfortable when she had them propped up.
He took a small breath of air.
"I was wondering how you figured it out that you were in love with Numbuh two?"
Abby saw that question coming from a mile away. She was wondering when he would ask that.
She gave a reassuring grin and patted his shoulder as he relaxed some.
"I guess I always knew. I knew I always liked him. Then one day it just happened. We fell in love with each other. Numbuh five just knew he was the one for her. It's a feeling that only one other person can make you feel. It's a different feeling and you can picture yourself being with that special someone for the rest of your life."
"Yes, but how do you know?"
Abby gave a slight chuckle.
"Awe, baby yah just do. Now why are yah askin' Abby this?" She said, using her actual name and not her codename.
Nigel shrugged.
"I never got to hear the talk. I wasn't here to hear it from my parents or any of you guys."
He looked at her and she smiled at him. He gave a small grin back.
"But you must've already known since you're married to Rachel, right?"
He nodded.
"Yeah. I just wanted to hear the talk." He then stood up. Abby stood up as well, fixing her hat in the process and smoothing down her dark blue skirt.
She patted her friend's back and responded with, "Well yah heard it. Numbuh five's glad she could help."
"Thanks Abby."
The two now very old adults hugged for a brief second. They broke apart with small grins plastered on their faces. Abby was happy to finally have her old leader back with them all and that he found happiness when Rachel went for him long ago. Their team was the only sector to have all their members not be decommissioned by the Kids Next Door. And Abby was thankful for that...
Nigel then walked over to the door and opened it slightly. But before he left to meet up with his other friends and his wife, Abby called out his name.
He turned toward her.
"That's what friends are for, baby."
