Theodore Nott was having problems. Most of these problems centred around a girl, but all were irritating and made him think too much. Some of these worries were about the tense situation that surrounded the walls of Hogwarts, true, but in the end most of them came back to her.

She herself was not a problem. In fact, she was probably the least problematic girl he'd ever met.

And THAT was a problem.

How he could he have let himself fall in love with her? She was bitterly funny, frequently intelligent, fully pureblood, in agreement with most of his views, and not afraid to shout with a fiery anger that entranced him when she wasn't. She was striking beautiful, not that he'd noticed at first, because her beauty crept up on you day after day until you finally realised she was stunning. At least, that's what it had been like for Nott. She was completely perfect for him, and this caused him much anxiety. He was drawn to her, wanted her, wanted to protect her, to keep her safe.

And that was another problem.

He was afraid for the first time in his life, and his fear was all about this girl. She could be hurt, damaged, killed – there was a war raging after all. It tore him up, the fact he was powerless, and had to watch her every day edging closer to her potential doom by allying herself with dangerous people. Himself being the number one culprit. She should have left him alone, but the thought scared him. He wasn't sure he could handle it. Mostly though, he was afraid of anyone finding out. He was terrified of how they would use her if they knew. He was afraid because there was nothing he wouldn't do to keep her safe.

This was a problem because she wasn't his, and never would be. It was almost painful to think how much he would sacrifice for her, without her ever knowing why.

So yes, Theodore Nott was having problems, and most of them were centred around a girl.

But his biggest one yet was that Astoria Greengrass would soon be Astoria Malfoy.
