So I was re-watching season 5 with my sister, and I just fell in love with "The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang" all over again. Not to mention Rory the Centurion waiting 2,000 years…SQUEE! Are there any words to express how amazing he is? Then the lighthearted ending where they all fly off together in the TARDIS. While watching the final scene where Amy says, "Yeah. I think we should say good-bye" and then flings open the door and shouts good-bye, I was like, Okay. That is beautiful. I need to write a oneshot about this.
Anyway, all that rambling was mostly leading up to the fact that this fanfic is dedicated to my sister, who is a devoted Amy Pond fan, mostly because of her spunkiness and all her funny lines. This is for you, sis. I know how much you adore Amy, so enjoy. And no, writing this fanfic has not made me change my mind. Despite our numerous arguments, I still think Rose Tyler is better than Amy. ;)
Also, this fanfic was partially inspired by Carrie Underwood's song "Ever Ever After" and Taylor Swift's "Today was a Fairytale." I listened to both songs while writing this fanfic, and I think they fit the story pretty well. And in case you can't figure it out, the very first scene is from the Eleventh Hour, and then it jumps to the Big Bang ending. Disclaimer: I don't own Doctor Who.
"Who's Amy? You were Amelia."
"Yeah, now I'm Amy."
"Amelia Pond. That was a great name."
She gave a casual shrug. Sniffed and arched an eyebrow, though she didn't want to answer.
"Bit fairytale."
Amy Pond had always had an aversion to fairytales. There was no particular reason why. She just didn't like those starry-eyed, dreamy heroines. She didn't get swept away in the whole magic thing, with wishes and spells and happily-ever-afters. It was all rubbish to her. She was headstrong, not to mention a bit on the bossy side, and liked to see things the way she wanted to.
In her eyes, there was no use wasting her life on scattered memories, hopeful dreams. She should know, after the childhood deal with the Raggedy Doctor.
If one thing was for sure, it was that she definitely did not want to be some damsel in distress. She wanted to be in charge, to do things her way.
This had been her firm belief, that no one could persuade her from. Up until now.
Now, as she swung the TARDIS door wide open with all her might and stood, drowning in the star-filled night, the moment felt purely magical.
If Amy Pond had to pinpoint one time in her short life that she felt like a princess, it was now.
It really was like one of those fairytales, wasn't it? She was all dressed up in her wedding gown, hair loosely curled and tumbling freely around her shoulders. The night sky surrounded her, sparkly and glittery. It was the eve of the most perfect day of her life, and she was leaving home, whirling off to another new adventure.
"Good-bye!" Amy yelled at the top of her lungs, letting every emotion in her voice echo, savoring the thrill of the moment. She gave a little wave just like royalty on TV did, her skirts bunched up with her other hand. The stars blinked down on her, seeming to sing a song on their own, a reminder to her.
Yup, she thought. Don't worry. I still believe in stars. I always will, I think, from now on.
Amy popped back into the TARDIS, shutting the door behind her. She felt absolutely content, and in that short second decided that fairytales weren't so bad after all. A little magic in the air never hurt anyone.
After all, her own fairytale had come true, hadn't it?
Amy never protested again when someone referred to her as Amelia.
Hope it wasn't too cringe-worthy. Please review––comments as well as helpful criticism are appreciated, I'm always trying to find ways to improve.
