Words.
Words that were meant to be deciphered at times but instantly comprehended at first sight. Words were meant to make sense when read. There would be sentences (made up of said words) and those lines ending with any sort of punctuation were to have their meanings grasped instantly.
My dog ate my cat.
The bird loves candy.
Gaara is the spawn of Satan.
Those sentences, simple as they are, could not be understood by him that morning. Were one to – slowly and steady – say those sentences to him, he still would not picture what they meant. The disturbing idea of a dog chewing away at the bones of a cat would never be seen in his mind's eye. Nor a bird chirping like a psycho due to a sugar rush and much less Gaara standing in flames with an insane smile across his murderous face. He had seen the smile but never the flames, so that image was still unknown.
The feel of her chest softly rising upon his own must have been the cause of the inability. That and the sweet scent of her hair breathing into him. And the sense of her smooth skin under his fingertips, her back being the center of his hand's attention.
The other was currently holding an item that just couldn't make sense to him despite his calm trying. Feeling her gently shiver a moment, his eye catching the sight of endless goose bumps racing upon her bare body, he pulled upon the bed covers and drew them higher on her. A small smile drew on her rosy lips, his name murmured as a hint of her dreams…or perhaps just her knowing that he was there. "Kakashi…"
And it was all it took to get him to place the book down on the bedside table.
In a moment of emotional epiphany, so to speak, Kakashi wrapped strong arms around her small frame, bringing her closer and back to the realm of consciousness. He faintly smiled at the cute noises she made as she awoke, watching her pale lavender eyes flutter open.
She looked up to him, cheeks softly painted pink from her sleep and buried her face against him to hide a yawn. "What time is it…?" She mumbled, her breath brushing his skin.
"Mmm…around eight or nine. Still sleepy?" Kakashi chuckled, noting how her body drifted again into a relaxed state. She tiredly nodded her head and giggled at the kiss received from him.
"Go back to sleep then, Hinata." Came his soft voice, his chin gently resting on the top of her head.
He waited for no reply as she helplessly fell back asleep, Kakashi shooting a glance at his book.
"….."
And closed his eyes.
Icha Icha Paradise could wait.
A/N:
I'm supposed to be updating for my PotC stories but I've been watching Naruto (to get all hyped up for the new episodes) and I've fallen for the pairing of Kakashi and Hinata! I simply adore them together (even though I'm a Naruto/Hinata shipper!). I do hope you like the one-shot, more of them shall be coming along in hopes of me regaining my muse for the PotC ficcies!
Sincerely,
ABFirestar
