"So those who sin in life, will be sent to hell instead?"
After five years of being married, Hisana's eyes still stun him with their mystic beauty.
"Yes." He says, and is sad to see her eyes already drifting away toward the setting sun.
"So, Soul Society is what the humans call Heaven?" He wonders what makes her think about Heaven and Hell now. Is she worried because of her failing health, or is she thinking about her missing little sister.
"No. Heaven is somewhere else." He doesn't know how to elaborate further. It's a difficult subject and he is never good with words.
Hisana turns back toward him, the sun illuminating the left side of her face while casting the right side in darkness. He tries hard to memorize every detail of this moment: the little flutter of her eyelashes, the sad smile lurking in the corner of her mouth, a whole universe of sorrow and longing and love and regret in her eyes.
"No?" her voice is weakened by her illness, but still strong enough to play tricks with his heart. "Then Hisana must be very careful in her next life, not to be too good or too bad. Because, my lord…" She reaches a delicate hand to him and he gripped it in his own. "This is Hisana's heaven."
Sometimes the truth just ain't enough,
Or is it too much in times like this?
Let's throw the truth away, we'll find it in this kiss
In your skin upon my skin, in the beating of our hearts
May the living let us in, before the dead tear us apart
Worlds Apart, Bruce Springsteen
