Disclaimer:I don't own the Young Wizards books.

A/N: Just reread DW and completely fell in love with Ed all over again. Here's a poem written by Nita about the Master of the Sharks.

You had many titles:

Master Shark,

Pale Slayer,

A name of gnashing teeth,

The Master of the Unmastered.

But to me, you were simply Ed.

You had seen centuries pass by.

You were the ancient one,

The cool observer,

Unmoved by travesty or victory.

You were there from the start,

When the Choice was given,

And Death bartered for.

You knew the blood of innumerable victims,

Tasted their pain

And ended their distress.

It was your duty,

Your charge.

All who swam the Sea feared you,

Hated you for your Mastery's actions.

The flat black of your eyes,

Filled them with terror,

For in your presence they knew,

Death was near at hand.

So you swam alone.

Companionship you spurned,

Needing not the warm-blood's comfort.

Unmastered, unfettered,

Taking no sides but your own.

You scorned death,

Believing not in the Heart of the Sea,

From whence all magic flowed.

Yet you sang.

Every time the Call went out,

You answered.

You wove your power

With that of mighty wizards,

And held your own,

Accepting the Sacrifice

So the Lone One

Might be tethered once more.

There was no warmth in your eyes,

Nor care in your voice.

Yet you offered yourself up,

And made the Sacrifice in my place.

You died for me,

For a sprat.

And in those last moments,

You sang.

My wizardry coursed through you,

And such a voice the Sea had never heard.

To hear you sing again,

To see the flat black of your eyes,

And feel the rough brush of your skin.

That is what I desire.

But those things are lost to me,

In this world at least.

But my grief is somewhat dulled,

Since I know,

There is always Timeheart.

For what's loved,

Lives.

A/N: Well, I hope you all like this. It's been a while since I've written poetry, so please review and tell me what you thought. Cheers!
