Ballad to Gorgossum

Twenty-five hours

Afloat in the sea,

Twenty-five hours

And one just for me.

I don't own the first

Or the last it is true,

Or most of the ones

That come 'tween these two,

But the best one is mine

I've no doubt in my head

And those disagreeing

Will find themselves dead.

But how could you doubt,

When you stroll down the place,

The joy that it brings,

Clear as blood on new lace?

And who could deny

There is music that plays

When, dead on the gallows,

A multitude sways?

Come flood or come famine,

Come illness or drought,

There won't be a soul

Who could make me get out.

For 'tis here I will live

And 'tis here I will stay

Forever in Night

Shunning the Day

Twenty-five hours

Afloat in the Sea

Twenty-five hours

And one just for me.
