Muggle Artefacts

write a fic in which one or more characters come into contact with a Muggle artefact. It can either play a prominent role or just be obliquely mentioned, so long as it's there.

Word count: 100, 500, or 1,000 words.


At the very bottom of his trunk, beside black robes and piles of books, lay a silver thimble, tiny and forgotten among the items distinctive of the world he belonged in.

Once it had glowed bright, for it was kept with pride and polished again and again, a glint of refinement among worn clothes and scowling matrons. It had had glorious days, and now it sat there dismissed and collected dust. Fittingly so, for it had always been worthless.

Worthless, he thought, remembering Amy's laugh, higher and higher, nearly pitching into a scream.

Slowly, a smirk stretched his pale lips.
