A/N: Sooooo, this isn't anything I've written recently. Maybe a year or two ago for a NaruHina contest over for narutoforums. Just a little take on possible future fun between Naruto and his daughter. I think Naruto will make a wonderful father.
Disclaimer: I do not own anything Naruto related. If I did then I would have ended the manga a long time ago and emphasized the side characters. :D
In Her Eyes
"…watch me now…"
He began to drift over the words, the same words that were now engraved in his memory. It wasn't the only thing he remembered though. She had stood so confidently back then, clawing desperately at her beliefs.
"…I won't go back…"
It had been his way just as much as it was now hers, and perhaps now he could see her better. She gripped her side, and pulled up her head with her final stand. In that moment, he could finally-
"DADDY! WHY AREN'T YOU PAYING ATTENTION!"
And all the feeling came back. The cool steps below him, the light weight that now rested in his lap, but most importantly the same pale gaze he had been made witness to many years ago. They were sharp and clear. All seeing, and all knowing.
"NOW I'M GETTING ANGRY!"
But she had his mouth. And her scrunched up eyes only further proved that she was indeed his daughter. She seemed upset, just like he used to be in his youth, but he couldn't remember why. Had he really been that far and away in thought?
Her pudgy fingers loosened the grip on his robes. Arms now crossed in annoyance as she looked away in displeasure.
"You promised you'd watch me! I was standing right there," she said while extending her finger towards the bottom of the steps. "And you promised you'd watch me throw my kunais!"
The look on her face was just priceless! All he wanted to do was to show her that he did screw up, and that he was really sorry for it. However, he knew by now that lots of affection would get him nowhere. It really was a shame that she wasn't more like her mother in that sense…
Without warning, he rose from the step. Arms still wrapped protectively around his daughter's waist with a lightness that his voice never carried in his younger days.
"I did promise, didn't I?" She only nodded upon hearing, "And I certainly don't like breaking promises to you, Sora. How about you show me now, and after I'll take you home on my shoulders?"
Her face instantly lit up, and she was ready to jump off and play ninja. "Okay! But I'm still telling mommy!"
Before she could even pull out her cardboard tools, a soft and curious voice had interrupted.
"Tell mommy what exactly?"
The blonde, not having paid attention to the approaching presence, turned around instantly with a nervous hand behind his head. "Hinata! I…well…you know Sora…the sweet thing she is…"
"Daddy wasn't watching me again!"
His crisp blue eyes narrowed into slits as he lowered himself down to her level. He pushed his cheek out and pressed it challengingly against hers. "Why you little…"
"Don't you even…" his daughter matched with just as much aggression as she pushed him back.
But both stopped their intense stares when they heard a soft giggle from behind. Hinata's lips parted, and while her voice was soft, they heard every single word.
"Don't be silly, Sora. Your father is always watching you. He sees better than my own eyes can…"
