Flashback

'You really think I loved you Iruka?' Kakashi scoffed, 'No-one will love you! I was just playing with you! All of this,' Kakashi said, holding up Irukas hand, pointing to the sliver engagement ring on his finger, 'was a lie! You're so pathetic! Why would I be interested in a plain, boring chunin like you?' Kakashi chuckled, dry and humourlessly, 'You disgust me.' Kakashi finished, grabbing his pack and leaving.

Iruka sat on his bed, clutching his engagement ring tightly in his palm, still quite shocked.

'My whole life has just been a game…' Iruka thought sadly to himself, 'A game for someone to play, get bored with and throw away, and then someone else will come along and play it… But, when will I win this game? When's my turn? There will be no tears for you Kakashi… I don't think I can do that… I don't think I have any left… And I don't want you to win…

Three days… Three days until our wedding… and you leave me…

Three words… Three words you whispered into my ear at night… and now… now I'm alone…

Naruto's with Jiraiya-Sama… he doesn't need me anymore… No one does… But I'm not gonna leave this earth… Because then you win. I'm not loosing this damn game anymore! This is my life, and from now on I'm going to be the one playing it. I'm the controller, and I'm not going to lose!'

Kakashi ran out of Iruka's apartment, trying his hardest to stop the tears from falling, to stop the urge to run back and hug his fiancé. He ran all the way to the Hokage tower, where he had been summoned. He walked into the Third Hokage's office, and was met with a sad smile.

"Did you do it, Kakashi?" The Hokage asked; his voice filling with deep sympathy for both Iruka and Kakashi.

"Yes… but I am going to regret it for the rest of my life…" Kakashi trailed off as he looked out the window, in the direction of Iruka's apartment.

"I know… but you know the risks of this mission… You can't endanger anyone but yourself… And I am very sorry for that…"

Kakashi nodded numbly, bowed and left for his mission, with the picture of Iruka's devastated face burned into his mind.

Iruka knelt in front of the memorial stone, and brushed his fingers across someone other than his parents' names. "Well, it looks like you won after all Kakashi… 'Coz now I can't stop crying…"
