"Hotaru, you need to go to school!" Kaorinite's voice rang through my ears, bouncing of my poor mistreated eardrums and amplifying my headache to an unbearable amount. The violent and intense beams of light pouring into my room from the doorway did not help.
"Headache," I whispered feebly. I felt like a caterpillar in a cocoon, but my cocoon had been ripped open by a predatory spider, which was slowly killing me; pulling my legs off one by one, letting me bleed to my death. If the spider would be merciful, he would blind me and make me deaf, but all caterpillars know that spiders have no mercy. Spiders and caterpillars do not get along.
"Your father will not be pleased with this." She clipped her words, trying to show me how she is higher. Spiders are always higher than caterpillars. Spiders suspend themselves from thin strands of silk, ascending and descending at will, and the caterpillars, pitiful caterpillars can only climb branches, they cannot raise themselves. Spiders are above caterpillars.
"I cannot move." I stuttered slowly, trying to explain my situation. Spiders speak in a different tongue than caterpillars. Spiders know the language of blood, thriving off the pain of others, and caterpillars, terrified caterpillars, know the whispers of terror, being chased by bigger animals, then found while in transformation, promptly to be murdered. Spiders and caterpillars cannot communicate.
"Get up! If you miss one more day of class, you will become that much more stupid!" She shrieked at me, pulling me out my bed. Spiders know more than caterpillars. Spiders fly through the air, using their knowledge to manipulate the weak, and caterpillars, silly caterpillars, stuck on the ground scuttling among the leaves, only knowing the basic information. Spiders are smarter than caterpillars.
"Yes ma'am." I slinked out of bed, pulling my uniform over all of my appendages. Spiders and caterpillars do have one difference; Caterpillars have a metamorphosis, while spiders remain stagnant.
The thing that got me through school that day was that, obviously, Kaorinite was the Spider, and I would one day be a butterfly.
